THE MATRIX 4 Adds SENSE8 And EMPIRE Actor Toby Onwumere In An Undisclosed Role

We learned that Mindhunter's Jonathan Groff had signed on for Warner Bros. & Village Roadshow's untitled Matrix sequel last night, & now it's been revealed that Toby Onwumere (Sense8) will be joining him.

The cast of Warner Bros.' upcoming Matrix revival is really starting to come together.

Last night, news broke that Mindhunter and Frozen II star Jonathan Groff had signed on in an undisclosed role, and now Deadline reports that Toby Onwumere will reunite with Sense8 co-creator Lana Wachowski in the sci-fi sequel.

Details on Onwumere's character are also being kept under wraps.

The Matrix 4 will presumably take place after the events of the divisive Revolutions, but plot details are pretty much non-existent. Aquaman and Watchmen actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is rumored to be playing a younger version of Mopheus, however, so time-travel elements may come into play.

Lana Wachowski, who co-wrote and co-helmed the original trilogy with her sister Lilly, will return to the director's chair. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will also be back as Neo and Trinity, respectively, and Jada Pinkett Smith is in negotiations to reprise the role of Niobe. Other new recruits include Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist) and Neil Patrick Harris (Gone Girl)

No release date has been announced for The Matrix 4 yet.

No offense to the Wachowski's, but I haven't enjoyed a single thing they've put out since they both became women.

@L0RDbuckethead

I don’t think I’ve liked anything since The Matrix. V for Vendetta maybe...I heard they actually ghost directed that film and it’s a classic.

I’ve also heard Cloud Atlas is better than average but I haven’t seen that one.

I'd rather get an anime spinoff, or live action, film about other periods in the history of the Matrix.

The Animatrix opened the door to this.

@BlackBeltJones - If you like Animatrix, I highly recommend Love Death + Robots on Netflix. It's a batshit crazy animated anthology.

I've noticed that they've been looking at TV actors to fill up the cast. Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonahtan Groff, and now this guy.

I keep forgetting this exists and every time I remember I keep wishing WB would just can the Harry Potter spinoffs and just concentrate on Matrix and Cloud Atlas sequels (or put them in a shared universe, something not nearly as shameless as a 'Trench' movie)
