The Matrix Resurrections is set to hit theaters this December, and we now have a new look at the sci-fi sequel as part of USA Today's extensive holiday preview.
This latest promo still features returning stars Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. Both characters were actually killed-off in the final part of the original trilogy, The Matrix Revolutions, and while we still don't know how they'll be brought back, director Lana Wachowski recently revealed that great personal loss was the impetus for her deciding to resurrect the franchise's heroes.
The trailer suggested that Neo, aka Thomas, may have been plugged back in to The Matrix, while a brief shot of Trinity seemed to hint that she may actually be a computer programme, and not a resurrected version of the character we knew.
Check out the new image below along with the trailer and a first look at some tie-in Funko POPs.
“The Matrix Resurrections is a continuation of the story established in the first Matrix film… 20 years after the first film, the franchise that helped define pop culture at the turn of the century is back for a continuation and extension of the original movie. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind"
Other franchise returnees include Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson. Also joining the cast will be Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Andrew Caldwell, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Hollman, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Christina Ricci, Max Riemelt, and Brian J. Smith.
The Matrix Resurrections will be released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously on December 22.
