Warner Bros. debuted the first full clip from Lana Wachowski's The Matrix Resurrections tonight during the Game Awards, and it features a reunion between two old friends from the original trilogy.
The sneak peek begins with Bugs (Jessica Henwick) guiding Neo (Keanu Reeves) through a door which leads to a train running through Tokyo. They then pass through another door, where Neo encounters a younger version of Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) while footage of the original (Lawrence Fishburne) is projected around them.
We're not exactly sure what's going on here, but social media reactions should be online soon, and they'll hopefully give us a better idea of what to expect from the plot.
“The Matrix Resurrections is a continuation of the story established in the first Matrix film… 20 years after the first film, the franchise that helped define pop culture at the turn of the century is back for a continuation and extension of the original movie. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind"
Other franchise returnees include Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson. Also joining the cast will be Andrew Caldwell, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Hollman, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Christina Ricci, Max Riemelt, and Brian J. Smith.
The Matrix Resurrections will be released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously on December 22.
