Apparently Morgan Freeman will join Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko in Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion at Universal. The Sci-fi flick is based on a graphic novel which was also created by Kosisnki. Deadline report that they are unsure which role Freeman will play but that it's a critical part

Freeman is no stranger to any genre really but the last fully fledged sci-fi flick he appeared in was the appalling Steven King adaptation Dreamcatcher. This movie focuses on the last man (Cruise) on a post-apocalyptic Earth, who stays behind to repair ships that hunt down and blast a virulent alien species. Michael Arndt is currently working on script re-writes that had earlier drafts by William Monahan and Karl Gajdusek. Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark are producing through Chernin Entertainment along with Barry Levine and Kosinski.

Update: Variety's Jeff Schneider just tweeted: Morgan Freeman will play Malcolm Beech, the leader of the human resistance on Earth. So there ya go, he's not the narrator!

@MrEcko
Tom is the last guy on earth keeping machines going that kill the aliens, therefore the resistance is simply not based on earth. Probably in space :-)

@pOoPEE , I think you are correct. I read something about people living above Earth's atmosphere.

@headloppe, get your head checked lately? The casting directors cast, not the co-stars.

Morgan / Cruise collaboration is a winning formula to me. They haven't worked together before.
