Neill Blomkamp (Elysium, District 9) continues to be a "director to watch" and, today, we're happy to hear his next movie is moving forward.

It's called Chappie and Sony Pictures has announced Blomkamp will begin directing this fall. Blomkamp will work from a screenplay he has written with Terri Tatchell. He will also produce the film with Simon Kinberg.

Chappie tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes. The film will star Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, with Ninja and Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters.

Elysium opened at #1 in the U.S. this weekend, and was also #1 in Russia, Sweden, Taiwan and Ukraine. Sony Pictures also released Blomkamp’s first feature film, District 9, which took in over $200 million worldwide and earned four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Hannah Minghella and Rachel O’Connor will oversee Chappie for Sony Pictures; Brye Adler will oversee for Media Rights Capital.

Elysium is no longer #1 in the US box office. Yesterday, We're The Millers took the top spot.

Wow! Trollem bringing up IM3 again. Talk about being obsessed with a movie.

@Trollem

Learn some new material, loser. I've never seen someone so obsessed with a movie before. It's almost as if the movie raped your mother or made your dad gay.

IM3 did suck ! Elysium was much better and anyone who does not know that has either never seen Elysium or they are lying to them selves.

I am happy to hear Sony has faith in him. I love that he is getting to do his own work instead of someone else's ideas.

I see no Eminem on list of cast members. I never would have thought of him as an actor but after Neill wanted him in Elysium I would like to see what he could do with him.

I still sadly have not been to the movies to see Elysium yet. I had to much going on during the weekends that I did not plan for. I hope this weekend will be better so I can go see the film.

Hope CHAPPIE is better than Elysium or its gonna be like M.Night Sha..whatever his name is.
A writer/director who's films get weaker & weaker.

District 9 was great,Elysium was just okay..will Chappie be bad? I hope not.
Copley is cool actor so I can see why he keeps getting used.
