Both directors Michael Bay and Guillermo del Toro have been at CinemaCon this week; the former is promoting Pain & Gain, while the latter is representing Pacific Rim. During Bay's presentation, he talked about his Transformers film and how there have been some "rip-off" robot movies. He didn't name any titles, but he was likely referring to recent films Battleship and Real Steel. Of course, many were wondering if Bay was referring to Pacific Rim as well, but insiders close to him "highly doubt it". Regardless, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Guillermo del Toro talked about the many differences between the two blockbusters. "We are far, far, far away from that in a very willing fashion. For good or bad, this is my movie. This is my universe and my creation, and I do not create through comparison."

Del Toro then seemingly takes a jab at Michael Bay's approach to Transformers, saying, "The fights don't occur in well-lit, supercool, car commercial-looking environments. They occur in the middle of a raging sea storm or in a savage snowstorm. They happen in a universe that is incredibly saturated. And to some degree, the source of all artificial life is Frankenstein." Finally, he jokingly adds that his Pacific Rim robots would take down any robot "in the history of mankind in a toe-to-toe showdown." What do you think of the two directors' comments?

Pacific Rim opens July 12th. Transformers 4 is slated for a June 27th, 2014 release.
