REBEL MOON Director Zack Snyder Talks Threequel Plans And Teases Release Date For 6-Hour Director's Cuts

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver arrives on Netflix later this week, but for many Zack Snyder fans, this summer's planned director's cuts of that and Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire are even more exciting.

Talking to Forbes (via SFFGazette.com), the filmmaker confirmed he expects them to clock in at a whopping three hours each, meaning you'll need to carve out the better part of a work day if you plan on watching them in one sitting!

"Yeah, the director’s cuts are three hours each, so if you were to watch the director’s cuts back-to-back, it’s a six-hour affair but I think it’s going to be fun and definitely worth it," he explained. "What’s exciting is that on April 19, you’ll be able to watch Part One and Two together, if you feel like doing that. I cut the movies in half. I wrote it as a single story and then kind of broke it in half."

"You can’t underestimate that immersive feeling that you would get going all the way through the two movies," Snyder added. "With the director’s cuts, that’s just going to be more intense because of the additional scenes and the sort of coloring in the corners of the world in the way that we’re able to do, frankly, with more scenes and more time."

As for when they'll be available to watch on Netflix, the filmmaker noted, "We don’t have a hard date but probably sometime in August, I would say."

While Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire reportedly did well in terms of viewers on Netflix, it took a mauling from critics. Should viewership fall for the sequel (which is always a risk with a sequel to a movie which received poor reviews), then this could be where the sci-fi franchise ends. Snyder, however, has threequel plans.

"We have definitely been working on a Part Three, as far as the story goes," he teases. "We definitely know where we’re all headed - we’ve known that for quite a while, to be honest. So yeah, I’m excited to make some more Rebel Moon movies - that would be fun..."

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle, the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made.

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver starts streaming on Netflix on April 19.

Zack is that kid who got an extra 30 minutes to finish his test and still needs an extra hour after that. And still fails

@ShimmyShimmyYA -
Contrast that with Villeneuve, where every shot has meaning and nobody will ever see what's on the cutting room floor because it's not part of the finished product. Can't make any creative decisions? Just flop all the footage onto the screen (the small one).

@Goldboink - thank you. That’s why I respect denis saying there is no directors cut cause I made to make what I wanted to make within the confines of what I had to work with

That’s actual artistry

No way i'm sitting down for 6 hrs, especially considering how mid the first one was.

Well 6 hour directors cut might flesh out some of the characters but still does iron out the flaws in the story.

why doesn't this clown just do a tv series

no movies are 4 hours let alone 6

either get better at editing and put out watchable theatrical cuts or do tv

Stallone cut almost an hour out of rocky balboa still great film and the directors cut is being released

cleopatra had multiple hours cut

blade runner has multiple cuts and all good

etc

@dracula - agreed. Even cut in two parts it shouldn't be 4 imo. Think a good two-parter consists of two movie that can be watched separately

Why not just make it a tv show from the start? Dude could've even made it 8 hours then without anyone batting an eye
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 4/17/2024, 7:51 AM
@bkmeijer1 - he can barely make a 2.5 hr movie that properly ends changing that to 1 hr chunks that have to somewhat stand on their own isn’t gonna been
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/17/2024, 7:53 AM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - today's tv shows are all 6 or 8 hour movies already anyway, so I think it's doable. Not gonna say it's gonna be good or bad though. The chapter divisions in ZSJL didn't make sense either.

I just hope he finishes the "Army of the Dead" animated series. Most of the show is already voiced, so just release it as a 2.5D Animation or as a Motion Comic if Netflix won't spring for more.

Just hate how he seems to have abandoned that universe

Trilogy?

The first movie sucked, but he wants to make 3 Of them??

The is the same rathole he dragged the DCFU through.

I still haven’t watched these movies because I’m waiting for the directors cut. I refuse to watch watered down PG-13 versions.

I’m still waiting for his zombie universe. That second movie was actually really good. The one directed by the actor. Too bad looks like Netflix gave up on it.
