Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is planning a remake of The Island Of Dr. Moreau.
Warner Bros is going back to The Island Of Dr. Moreau. The studio and Appian Way partners Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran have set Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy to pen a contemporary re-imagining of the H.G. Wells’ classic novel. The intention is to make it a sci-fi film with a topical ecological message. Appian Way will produce with Mad Hatter Entertainment’s Michael Connolly.

Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, along with Michael Connolly, created Netflix's supernatural murder myster, Hemlock Groves. The show, which has been renewed for a second season, has been nominated in two Emmys' categories, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music and Outstanding Special Visual Effects.

As for The Island Of Dr. Moreau, it's H.G. Wells' tale about a mad scientist on a remote island who performs ghoulish experiments that transform animals into men. The novel has been adapted to film SIX times. With the most notable being: 1932's Island of Lost Souls with Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi, 1977's The Island of Dr. Moreau with Burt Lancaster and Michael York, and the 1996 remake starring Marlon Brando, Val Kilmer, David Thewlis, Fairuza Balk, and Ron Perlman.

those weird kind of movies ... "Office Killer" with Carol Cane comes to my mind ... Also "May" with Angela Bettis.
Gotta check Crispin Glover's "What is it" ... The trailer was bat shit crazy.

I always liked the old one, with Michael York, when I was a kid. The Brando one...eh. At the time, the only thing I could get into with it was the creature designs. Even those are pretty difficult to bear now a days. I'm all for another crack at it though.

Could be good. I liked the '90s version, for what it was, but my favorite piece of fiction inspired by this is the "Tyger, tyger" episode of B:TAS.

I could care less actually. So many damn remakes, Hollywood is getting pretty sad.

This whole website is devoted to movies with unoriginal characters, settings and plots. Don't get your undies in a bunch over remakes.

Once again...NOT a remake. A remake has, as its source material, a previous film. This is a new adaptation of a book, just like Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, Batman Begins, Carrie...etc.

Also, no, Hollywood is not getting less original. Take a look: http://hauntedbyhumans.wordpress.com/2012/09/22/hollywoodnotlosin/

Also, so far this year, this is the count:
Original: 35
Adaptation: 24
Sequel/Prequel: 14
Remake: 2
Re-release: 2
