In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that, if successful, will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

Man, Blomkamp could do a Gundam movie if the final product comes close the concept.

I wish that Halo film came through; oh well, we got something more original out of it so no biggy.

Oh so they hi-jacked one of the Halo arrays?

I'm sure the Forerunners do not approve.

That looks amazing. People might say it's a ripoff of Halo or whatever, but if you take the time to think about it, it makes sense for a space station to be constructed like that. As far as we know, centrifugal force via spinning is the only way to establish artificial gravity. Anyone remember the ship from Mission to Mars?

When things spin, science happens.

Looks hella similar but you can't really go wrong when Syd Mead and Neil Blomkamp are working together. Cant WAIT!

To all saying "it looks similar to this or that", ring-shaped world stations are common in science fiction, and it's not Halo or 2001 that invented them.

Uh, it's not a ripoff of Halo or anime; NASA devised this type of station way back in 1975. It's called the Stanford Torus. It would create artificial gravity through rotation and centrifugal force. Here's one of the concept paintings NASA made:

People seem to love using the Stanford Torus design for space stations, lol. Kubrick used it in 2001: A Space Odyssey, DePalma used it in Mission to Mars, Blomkamp's using it in Elysium...and it's appeared in several other media outlets.

Thank you @MajorRoboto...I remember one of my first books had some pictures like this in it. It has been around for some time. Seeing it done in film will be amazing...atleast I truly hope it is as good as in my imagination

Man I wish I was going to SDCC. I went to my first comic con this year, and now i wanna see this too!

This is older than 1975. Wernher von Braun designed it way back in the early 50's. I agree with NightDrive. I'm extremely excited to see this done in its full potential on the big screen.
