Toho Co., Ltd.’s Godzilla franchise contains one of the most widely recognized movie monsters worldwide, including more than 25 films, multiple television programs, video games and book series. Legendary, which has been developing the project, and its partner Warner Bros. will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner. The project will fall under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros.

The film is directed by Gareth Edwards, who earned worldwide acclaim for his feature directorial debut, “Monsters.” Edwards directs from a screenplay by David Callaham (“The Expendables” films), David S. Goyer (the “Dark Knight” trilogy) and Max Borenstein (upcoming “The Seventh Son”). Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce, along with Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher will serve as executive producers alongside Doug Davison, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston, the film is set to hit theatres on May 16, 2014.

I first thought that it's that Mecha-Godzilla thing, but that's creative, nonetheless. Can't wait for the full reveal.

At least the silhouette is recognizable as Godzilla, so we won't have another FRAUDzilla like the TriStar version. Looks promising!

Fettastic

You do realize this film comes out next year? And that filming isn't even finished yet?
Plus, this movie will have a panel at SDCC. Thousands of people will be there. And they have mural of Godzilla tail on a building in San Diego. AND legendary pictures twitter account have been uploading BTS where millions can see. So far there is a lot of marketing, don't say it's shit because you haven't seen footage yet. Footage isn't the only part of marketing.

Fettastic, can you at least enjoy what we are getting? Because as soon as we got this movie announced and then Edwards directing, we got NOTHING from this movie for like a YEAR. We all thought this movie was in development hell, then SDCC 2012 happened. If there's anything I dissapointed so far by this, is that there wasn't a Teaser released. Yeah, the film's is still in production, but the San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Godzilla Test Reel could've easily been turned and edited into a Teaser, and be released in front of Legendary's only films this (nearly) past summer, Man Of Steel and Pacific Rim. Plus, if it were only one of the 2, then I say Man Of Steel, because although Pacific Rim is paying tribute to Giant Monsters like Godzilla, I can agree on that one movie that was ruined by the marketing, aimed ONLY at its fanbases. What's bigger, a fanbase, or the GENERAL Audience???

That's a great poster! This is already looking better than GINO 98 (Zilla for those who don't know. But I still refer to that film as GINO).
Anyway, Edwards seems to genuinely respect the source material from Toho's Godzilla films so I'm hopeful for this 2nd Hollywood run. I'm sure we'll get a teaser trailer at Comic-con
