Sigourney Weaver Open To Fifth ALIEN Film: "There's More Story To Tell"

Though not confirming that an Alien sequel is actually in the works, actress Sigourney Weaver attended a Q&A where she spoke about her character, Ellen Ripley, and returning to the universe.

At the fifth annual Hero Complex Film Festival, Sigourney Weaver spoke about the Alien franchise and her character, Ellen Ripley. After calling her "an existential hero", the actress alluded to the prospect of another Ripley-centric film. "Had we done a fifth one, I don’t doubt that her humanity would have prevailed," she said, adding, "I do feel like there is more story to tell." Of course, this is by no means a confirmation, but she said she doesn't feel Alien 5 could take place on Earth. "I feel it should take place in the far reaches of the universe where no one in their right mind would go. There are very few filmmakers that I can think of that I would want to entrust this to." Weaver admits that she feels "a longing from fans for the story to be finished. I can imagine a situation where we could at least finish telling her story. I think that would be very satisfying, at least to me. So we’ll just have to see what happens." Are you interested in seeing a new sequel, or has the mixed response to Ridley Scott's prequel Prometheus turned you off?

Prometheus was such a let down and seeing how much trouble Prometheus 2 has had i would rather they don't.

They shouldn't have killed off Ripley in Alien 3. They also killed off Newt and Hicks, which was really stupid.

After Alien: Resurrection, I've given up on the franchise. At least the first two movies are still great. Sci-fi classics.

There's more to the story but not with anything that follows Alien: Ressurection. If only that movie disn't happen and the third one didn't end with her dying. But really, who wants to see another movie with Ripley's stupid clone.

Far as I'm concerned, the ALIEN franchise ended after ALIENS. Ripley, Newt and Hicks are still floating around out there, somewhere.

I'm a sucker for Alien movies (good or bad). I'd see another if Weaver is cast.

You could do a Marvel Cosmic movie. That's alien enough.

Ripley was great for Alien and Aliens but it got really dumb and unnecessary after that. All the AVP movies sucked. Prometheus was decent enough for a sequel. I enjoyed it despite its failings. A whole hell of a lot more than anything after Aliens.

I really liked Alien, Loved Aliens, and thought Alien 3 was okay.

So I'm open to a fourth Alien movie, depending on who's writing and directing.

I'd be interested in another Alien film depending on the director, cast and screen writers. There could be more stories to tell but we'll have to wait and see.

I'm still eagerly awaiting for Prometheus 2.

WTF Alien should end with that underrated masterpiece called Alien 3 (Assembly Cut), but instead this geniuses let Whedon write Alien Resurrection.

I actually liked Alien 3 (The Assembly Cut). I dunno, I mean, I know that's not exactly the most popular opinion.. and I totally get why someone wouldn't like it, but, ah.. I just think it's pretty good in it's own way.

I Saw Sigourney's pic and thought: What if they rebooted Alien with Summer Glau as Ripley? Or maybe Or a filmów up with her as Ripley's daughter? They look so alike... Am I the only one who sees the resemblance?

@mgeoff88

"They shouldn't have killed off Ripley in Alien 3."

Technically they did. It was a clone in the crappy 4th movie. And then they (by Weaver's own opinion) "fouled the nest" by mixing them up with the Predator IP and down to Earth in the even shittier 'Requiem'.

[frick] me why didn't this article go crazy. Awesome find staypuffed!!

And damn straight ere's more story to tell - in every and any direction. Alien: Resurrection [frick]ing rocked, as did Alien3, top notch additions and not the embarrassments people like to claim they are.

Anything with AVP in the title shield be burnt on sight though.
