I'll openly admit that i have never been a fan of Star Trek, but i will scream out loud to the world that I am now.

The visuals in this movie was the most amazing thing ive ever seen. I seen it on IMAX with 5 of my friends, including three girls, and we all loved it. The plot is great, it explains itself to the non trek fans, and although a bit confusing with the whole space time continuum thing, it explains itself very well.

The acting was allright, i loved Captain Kirk, spock was allright, and Nero, well he played a good villain.

Im excited for the reboot of this franchise, because JJ Abrams delivers wonderful special effects and really makes this film enjoyable to watch. He kept it at 2 hours so it doesnt drag on at all, just non-stop action.

Whenever the sequel comes out for this movie, i would have to be dead to miss it, because this movie builds excitement for the new franchise, I'd compare it to the Iron Man of this summer. It will be hard for anybody to be dissapointed by this film.

i have not, nor will i ever be, a trekkie. But I grew up watching the shatner trek with my dad. He wasn't a trekkie either, just liked the show. As much as I liked the show as a child. I always found the movies to be somewhat "lame". I watched this new Star Trek movie last night, and found it to be quite amazing. I remember most of the characters from the original, and found that almost the entire new cast did amazing recreating the characters, giving them their own special flavor, and bringing them up to date. The only one I thought needed improving was Bones which I hate to say because I find Karl Urban to be an amazing actor. But his recreation of the character just seemed to be the same damn character.

OK. first things first , I am a fan of the original series and several of the trek spin offs . like next gen etc. but , this movie was made for one thing and one thing only. To make money and lots of it . Now that said . It is a good movie the acting is good. The direction is good. Special effects are good. And if it had set the entire universe back to right before ending a true fan of Gene Roddenberry's ideas. would be happy with the end result.
But this movie makes everything that came before it wrong and changes EVERYTHING about the star trek universe's history. Making it possible to re-tell any of the Star Treks that in a chronological universe would be set in stone. Because as we learned in the first series on television . It happened just as it should have the atomic platform blew up exactly 100 miles above the earth . Simply because the enterprise had to be there in history for things to unfold as we knew them to . All this movie does is make it easier for Hollywood to recycle . Old plots from the series and continue to resell the same stuff to us again and again. Only this time with a newer younger set of actors that will no doubt be re-signed for the next episode before the final reel is done spinning on this re-telling of future history.

OK, I was not a fan of the original series. I've only ever seen bits and pieces of a few episodes. Don't think I've ever watched one all the way through. I am a big fan of TNG, as one of my friends talked me into watching it when it first came out. I also enjoyed DS9, although I haven't seen the whole series.

First off, yes, they make the movies to make money. If they weren't going to make money, they wouldn't and couldn't make the movie.

I've read a few of the review here and it seems that sci-fi fans always think they can do it better. "They did it this way, why didn't they do it THAT way?" Seriously, some of you people on here have lost your ability to sit down in a movie theater and be entertained. Which is the whole point of going to the movie.

At this point, yes, they are going to retell stories. Why? Because it's damned near impossible to come up with a new story that would be entertaining. The way to make a movie, book, story, etc.... good is in HOW it's told. In that respect I think they did a fine job. Even with the "eject the core" ending, as it was a nod to all the times Scotty saved the ship in the time line we're familiar with.

I think they did an excellent job with the casting. Pike did an amazing job as Kirk and my favorite acting performance was Urban's take on McCoy!

The visuals in the movie were awesome! Some of the scenes just grabbed you and held on. I was also happy with some of the scenes in the engineering sections of the ship.

I plan on watching this again at least one or two more times while it's in theaters. One of those is going to be on IMAX for certain, as I'm sure the visuals will be even more impressive on the bigger screen.

Definitely looking forward to the sequel!
