The trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day had a lot of fans convinced that Daredevil (Charlie Cox) was set to make an appearance, but despite The Hand's involvement, the Man Without Fear was nowhere to be seen.
Of course, we have already seen Matt Murdock and Peter Parker share the screen in No Way Home, and their brief meeting gave way to a deep-cut Easter egg in Brand New Day that never actually appeared in the movie.
Production designer Will Dixon has revealed that he created several cards for Parker's wallet (the level of commitment to these tiny behind-the-scenes details is incredible), including a card for "Nelson, Murdock, Page: Attorneys At Law", which Dixon imagines "Matt would’ve given him one during No Way Home and Peter would’ve held onto it".
There's also a loyalty card for The Coffee Bean, which was a Spidey hangout in the comics, and a F.E.A.S.T. card, which Dixon felt that Peter might have "held onto to remember Aunt May".
If Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios do decide to move forward with a new Spider-Man trilogy - and they would be foolish not to after Brand New Day's spectacular box office performance - we're sure the Devil of Hell's Kitchen will show up in some capacity.
We could see both heroes interact before then in Avengers: Secret Wars, although Cox claimed that he is definitely not going to be in the movie during a recent convention appearance in the UK.
"No, I'm not going to be in it, no. Sorry. And you can believe me now."
Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins a brand new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult and living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from those he loves. In a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time.
But as the demands on him grow, he is put under increasing pressure. This triggers an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence, while a strange wave of crime emerges - and gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor. The cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.
