SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY: Here Are All The Biggest Reveals And Best Moments From The First Trailer
Following the release of the first full-length trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, we break down the footage to single out all the biggest moments and surprises it reveals about the upcoming spinoff...
There's been an awful lot of negativity surrounding Solo: A Star Wars Story. Much of that stems from the fact Disney and Lucasfilm haven't released a single image since the firing of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, something which has left many fans wondering if it's going to be a disaster (despite the fact that Ron Howard has reportedly reshot nearly the entire thing in recent months).
In the past 24 hours, a Super Bowl TV spot and full-length trailer have been released offering up a total of two minutes of footage which shed some light on what exactly we should expect from the spinoff.
We've now taken an in-depth look at those to bring you not only the best moments from our first look at Solo but also the scenes which finally explain where this story could be heading (which has been a mystery to us for a very long time now). So, to check the whole list out all you need to do is click either one of the buttons below and then share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
Han Solo's Shady Past
"I've been running scams on the street since I was 10," the younger Han Solo explains in this trailer. That may shed a lot of light on the smuggler's background and while it's possible he had a normal family life, it would make much more sense if he's actually always had to fend for himself given the attitude he has by the time we meet up with the beloved character in A New Hope.
A History With The Empire
In the teaser shown during the Super Bowl, we saw Han applying to join the Empire. While it's possible that's because he goes undercover at some point in the movie, he clearly has some history with them because he talks here about being kicked out of "the Academy" for having a mind of his own. In A New Hope, he didn't seem interested in choosing a side but Han clearly wanted to be part of something bigger at one stage in his life, even if it was only so he could become the Galaxy's best pilot.
A Fresher Looking Millennium Falcon
Well, the Millennium Falcon sure got dirty very quickly, eh? The ship looks a lot swankier both inside and out and hopefully this movie will explain why the front of the ship completely changed.
Is Q'ira Good Or Bad?
That shot of Emilia Clarke's Q'ira is very interesting as she's wearing clothes which look like they could be associated with the Empire. Could it be that she and Han trained together and while he was kicked out of the Academy, she found great success? That would make a lot of sense and could go some way in explaining why she chooses to help the team out; she has a rebellious nature too!
The Team
Woody Harrelson's character is putting a team together for reasons we're not quite sure of but it consists of Han, Q'ira, her droid L3-37, Lando Calrissian, and Thandie Newton's character, and an alien who's identity is a mystery. It's a ragtag group but what could they be after? We'll get to that later.
A Friendship Is Born
This is a simple enough shot but it clearly features a bond being formed between Han and Chewie, a friendship we all know lasts until the former is killed by his son a number of decades later.
Speeder Chase
We've known for a while that speeders would play a role in Solo and we get our first glimpse of them as Han and Q'ira are chased down by a Range Trooper in what looks set to be a thrilling action sequence. However, there's a chance they'll only be used here as opposed to being integral to the plot.
The Snowy Peaks Of Kashyyk
Han can be seen wearing what looks an awful lot like a jacket made from Wookie fur in snowy surroundings and it's possible that's because we're seeing Kashykk here, Chewbacca's home and the place the two could first become friends when Han helps the Wookie out in whatever predicament he's gotten himself into (rumour has it that it's something to do with the Empire's arrival).
A Mysterious Baddie
This very much looks like the character known as Moloch who has been spotted in a variety of toys which are being released for Solo. Who he is and what he wants remains a total mystery for now. It also looks like Han is going to get in some sort of draw with this guy; the question is, who shot first? (you know what, we're probably best off not tackling that question all over again).
A Very Different Take On Han Solo
When Q'ira tells Han she knows exactly what it is, it's interesting that his cocky smile falters somewhat. That's not the sort of shot you'd normally expect to see in a trailer and it could be an indication that the Han we meet here has yet to become as sure of himself and effortlessly cold and cocky as the smuggler who decided to help rescue a princess for an easy pay day several years later.
L3-37
If you're wondering what the deal is with this pretty unique looking droid is, it's the motion-capture character being played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Could she steal the show? It seems likely.
The Infamous Kessel Run
Could this be our first look at the Kessel Run we've heard so much about? We know it's in the movie (it had to be, really) and it seems it's going to also involve the Empire and some massive alien creatures. What is the team actually on the run with? Well, that obviously remains to be seen.
