With Disney buying Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise all the way back in 2012, then it would be clear as hell, that they were gonna bring the franchise back in all medias, whether it is a movie, book, TV show, or anything, and the new Star Wars novels, which are canon, are amazing (except Aftermath) and you should give them a read, man.

According to a post on the Star Wars website, is reporting that
"some of the story ideas and elements in this novel came straight from Rian Johnson" now what does that mean? does the novel tie in to Episode VIII? Will a big plot point of Episode VIII be teased in the novel?

While I enjoyed The Force Awakens, I am still a little burnt that Disney said "Screw You" to the previously released Star Wars canon. So much great material for movies. I was really hoping the new Star Wars movies would be versions of Star Wars Legacy. That graphic novel series is amazing. So many novels with great material....sigh, at least Rogue One looks really fun so far.

@Brightestdaze - I understand why they did, just because there is sooooo much going on and it just ends up being too much. However, they need to either make some aspects canon or take ideas from them....like the Old Republic, it's too rich of a story to not see on the big screen.

@Brightestdaze - George Lucas himself said before that if he did Episodes 7-9, that he wouldn't follow the books stories. He liked how everything was canon, but acknowledged that more movies would have to do their own thing creatively to be successful.

@Brightestdaze - It's just that there's too much material to tread through, and it would restrict what they want to do with their story. I know, I know, the movie ended up paying too much homage to Ep IV (some would argue it's a remake), and I agree that it does. But I think that Disney had to play it safe since there was so much riding on The Force Awakens.

@DeusExSponge @Menks123 @WYLEEJAY Please don't misunderstand, I thoroughly enjoyed The Force Awakens. Old Republic would have been interesting. I was just pointing out that it shocked me that the books from 40 some odd years didn't matter. There were great stories. I can easily separate the two in similar manner to how comic movies only use parts of material rather than one specific source due to the amount of material that is out there.

@Brightestdaze - That's totally understandable, I too would be shocked if I was invested in 40 years worth of materials and all of a sudden it ended up being tossed to the side.

@DeusExSponge - Well, I have read most of the SW books/comics/tpb. I haven't been reading for 40 years quite yet, was just trying to make a point. I can safely say that I have watched TFA multiple times, and still enjoy it. While I am still "kind of burnt" about the canon thing, I am excited about future installments. I assume I should have led with that rather than drum on inconsistently.

@Brightestdaze - That's cool man. I myself had dozens of the novels. Loved em. Donated them to the library years ago. My favorites were the Rogue Squadron, Wraith Squadron, New Jedi Order, and the Zahn novels.
