STAR WARS: Ron Howard Weighs In On Taking Over The Helm Of HAN SOLO

Following the firing of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Ron Howard has been hired by Disney to take the helm of Han Solo. Now, he's commented on his desire to "deliver on the promise" of the movie...

The Han Solo movie is in desperate need of saving, hence why Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has turned to old friend Ron Howard for help. Apparently, original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller upset her and Disney studio bosses when they started turning the spinoff into a full-blown comedy and that's why they want a safer choice to finish the final few weeks of shooting and planned reshoots.

Howard has now taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on finishing Han Solo and it definitely sounds like he's excited to enter the Star Wars Universe and both respect and improve upon the work that's been done. Howard is going to have his hands full bringing the movie together and making it what Lucasfilm actually wants, so chances are those five weeks of reshoots will become pretty extensive!

Are you excited to see what Howard does with Han Solo or are you writing off the movie for good after its loss of Lord and Miller? As always, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I've loved Ron Howard's recent work (Rush, In the Heart of the Sea), but he seems like an odd choice for Star Wars. Not my most anticipated film but I'll definitely see it at the cinema.

Now, let's get Phil Lord and Chris Miller back on board The Flash.

wonder how this is going to work, is he going to just finish what they have left and a few reshoots or are they going to be making major changes like with Superman 2 back in the day when Richard Donner was fired during filming

Yeah you're not adding your voice to anything here Ron. You're going to be lucasfilms little bitch.

Howard is simply there to calm the waters, not call the shots. This movie is Lawrence Kasdan's love letter to Han Solo, he'll be making the calls from behind the scenes, while Howard simply gets the production back on track.

@Humby - I don't know about that, Howard's too big a name for that, no?

I think I've switched from Team Lord and Miller to Team Lucasfilm.
If Lord and Miller were making it a full-on action-comedy, ignoring Kasdan's script, and shooting a different movie, I'd probably fire them too.
They're great directors so if they move on to helm The Flash then that's a win.

@Elayem - apparently the dude playing han voiced his concern's about how they were making han really goofy etc. Plus Kasdan isn't a fan of his scripts being ignored, unless it's Ford saying "I know"!

@TheSoulEater - Same here. I'd much prefer a Han Solo movie not happen, but if it is I want it done as good as possible. I trust Lucasfilm's plan and Ron Howard's experience.

@Super12 -

Exactly, if the actors themselves were saying it felt less like a star wars movie and more like a Han Solo Parody, somethings a miss. Get this guy who's great at adapting a classic feel to something, who's of that generation, and gets good performances...to take her home.

You have a script from the great Lawrence Kasdan, writer of Empire and Raiders and The Big Chill that everyone loves and you start ignoring it, improvising scenes, changing the story, turning the movie into a comedy. Thank you Ron Howard for stepping in and helping prevent a disaster.

I have incredible respect for Ron Howard. Anyone who has a range that goes from Willow to Apollo 13 is incredibly talented. But I'm still skeptical of the concept.

Regardless, I'd be kind of shocked if I didn't enjoy the film despite what I think will be pointless retcons made to "update" the feel of the Star Wars franchise for today's general audience...
