STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Director Rian Johnson Praises SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY

With reception for his own film being somewhat divisive THE LAST JEDI director can't wait for people to see Ron Howard's SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY

After it's tumultuous production and behind the scenes drama that led to Phil Lord and Chris Miller being fired from the project, then reports that Apollo 13 director Ron Howard was reshooting 80% of the film, not to mention the less than warm reception that Hail Caesar! actor  ‎Alden Ehrenreich received after being given the unenviable task of following Harrison Ford as famed smuggler Han Solo I think it's fair to say that there's some concern about the quality of the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Well if the trailer that was released not too long ago didn't convince you maybe praise from another Star Wars director will. At the AARP Awards, the Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson was asked if he had seen the aforementioned trailer and what he thought.

To which he responded:

I knew it was coming, but I was still…I was clicking, clicking, clicking, ‘yeah, yeah!’ And I think it looks so beautiful. I can’t wait for people to see more of the film – it’s so fun, it’s so funny. The cast is so charismatic, and I think they all just did a great job with it.

Now obviously whether those words assuage your concerns may depend on how you felt about last year's Episode 8 or what stock you put in the Looper writer and directors's opinions on films. Whatever the case may be, we'll find out when Solo: A Star Wars Story hits our screens on 25th May 2018.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to SOLO? Has Rian Johnson's words doing anything to excite you about the project? As always leave your thoughts in the comments below.

@Ha1frican - .... I'm usually really good at translating text-speak and typos, but I can not, for the life of me, figure out what you're trying to say. So... What?

If you're saying his thumbs up is a good sign, remember: if he had something bad to say, Disney wouldn't allow it (particularly if he wants to do his trilogy.) So directors, screenings and people in the biz who give these huge thumbs up? Not reliable sources. Sorry.

@Codeine - i dont know why it autocorrected but what I said was “he’s just saying what 90% of us did the trailer looks really good” he’s not saying anything about the movie only the trailer

@Ha1frican - Ah, autocorrect and punctuation.

I respectfully disagree with the sentiment, but I do agree he didn't say anything new- just that he thought the trailer looks good. I do not, I think this is the first SW film where the trailer is beyond underwhelming. I have hope, but I can't defend that hope.

Thanks for the clarity!

@knocturnalzen10 - Thousands of geeks have perished bravely trying to force project themselves to Hollywood in order to combat Rian Johnson face to face.

Used to be a pretty big Rian Johnson fan. After TLJ, I cringe and get sick ever single time he open his mouth about anything Star Wars-related. Please Rian Johnson, just go away, and someday we can all forget about your totally botched attempt at a Star Wars film.

The trailer looked pretty decent, but given the dumpster fire Rian Johnson started with Episode VIII I don't think he should be making any comments. I'd trust Mark Hamill more since he was the only one involved that warned us about the incoming shit wave.
