Both Fandango and Atom have reported record ticket sales for
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but that may not translate into an opening quite as big as previous instalments in the trilogy.
According to
Box Office Pro, the finale of the "Skywalker Saga" is currently tracking to open between $185 million and $225 million. That puts it well below
The Force Awakens' $248 million and potentially beneath
The Last Jedi's $220 million. It's not like this is a colossal dip, but it may signal a lack of interest in the last chapter of one of the biggest franchises of all-time.
Honestly, you'd think
The Rise of Skywalker would be even bigger than
Avengers: Endgame, but it seems like some of Lucasfilm's creative decisions have soured a lot of moviegoers on the series.
It's entirely feasible that things will change over the coming weeks, but the final trailer has now been released, and it felt like the buzz surrounding that faded away in a matter of days. Whatever happens with
The Rise of Skywalker, we know Disney is going back to the drawing board with the
Star Wars franchise and plans to give it a break on the big screen for at least the next few years.
Are you guys planning to see the movie this December?
