Syfy Cancels Stargate: Universe

Syfy Cancels Stargate: Universe

Syfy has announced that the next 10 episodes of Stargate: Universe, which will air in the Spring, will be the show's final shows — the series has been canceled.

The show, which was a real shake up for the franchise following Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis, never quite caught on with viewers, possibly because of its darker tone and more serialized nature. It is unfortunate, as in many ways it was the strongest chapter in the franchise's long history.

This, of course, follows the recent announcement that the network had canceled Battlestar Galactica spin-off, Caprica, as well.

Finally. Maybe this way, Syfy will now realize their recent programs have been so lame. Wish they would bring back Farscape or at least a spin-off of that show but I know they won't.

I wish I could say I am disappointed but I was sorta expecting this.

Maybe now they could get back to making some more spin-off movies! We were promised more after Ark of Truth and Continuum but we never got any

damnit. for once a stargate that was geared more towards adult like themes instead of the regular "whoa aliens attacking blow shit up WAAHHHH" ofcourse it had it in there but it was just a means of getting from one part of the story to the next. show wasnt based off of space battles. Great Premise, Great Characters, Great script, ugh. this blows.

I'm with you, wagonburner. I thought SGU was terrific and I'm really sorry to hear that it's leaving.

I did like the show, but Syfy should have kept it out of the Stargate universe (no pun intended). They were fighting a losing battle from the start hoping to grab both BSG and SG fans in one show.

SG1 and SGA for folks were escapisms, something fun, fast pace, you didn't take too seriously, that wasn't depressing.

SGU, is plot driven, slow paced and dark. Which isn't a bad thing, it just wasn't something compatiable with SG-SG1 & SGU.
I hate to lose the show, because I've gotten attached to it in its second season, but I am not surprised by its cancellation.

Finally there 2 weakest shows are canceled. SGU never really got going, to slow paced and depressing. Caprica was just sh-t from the beginning. Maybe now they will reboot the BSG franchise and keep Ron Moore far far away from it.

I am extremely dissapointed by this. SGU is a great show. I look forward to this hour of TV each and every week.

SGU had so much potential it just fell short of what could have been a great Voyager clone... BSG Caprica also had allot to offer minus the fact that they drive earth style cars and can planet hop...

IT FELT LIKE A BATTELSTAR LIKE THING TO ME..IT REMINDED ME TOO MUCH OF THAT FEEL, I NEVER COULD GET INTO IT. I JUST WISH SYFY COULD BRING BACK SHOWS THAT WERE GOOD BUT CANCELLED..OR REBOOT THEM OR SOMETHING.

As a Stargate fan, I was devoted to SGU. I, however, am not surprized as it tried to be too many things to too many people. The BSG influance was just distracting and there was no character for the modern audiance to latch on to and like. The Rush vs. Young struggle got old. I am still intersed in the characters and thier plight. I just hope they wrap it up in a final ep or movie.

Loved SG-1, could watch Atlantis, and never got into Universe. I think they made it too much like Star Trek. Lost what made SG unique.

SGU was so much better than SG1 or Atlantis. It was much more grown up.

But even if you didn't like it, it wasn't so bad that it needed to be cancelled.

How does SGU fail but A Town Called Eureka continue. Ridiculous.

It was a departure of the other series and like mentioned more adult tone made it great.

very very disappointed. Was the best thing after roland emmerich's classic. Great characters, promising story and amazing acting. A sad day.

Most of the intelligent sci-fi shows on television get canceled because people want ADD shows with action/humor/explosions and SGU just wasn't that; of course it struggled with being compared to BSG and a bastard child of the Stargate shows. This season was getting better with an actual enemy and I actually started to care what happened as opposed to the 1st season where I really didn't care about the characters and the only actual danger they faced was if they made it back to the ship before the countdown ended.

i dont know about the show... there was something that felt wrong.

i've justed watched the whole season on dvd (we dont have it in belgium on tv yet) and some episodes were good but other where really fo far fetched. the adult tone of the series was refresching from time to time and the cameo's where also cool.

but the ending of season one felt odd and really took to long for something to happen.

from what i've read on the internet season 2 looked promising... i hope i can catch it on dvd still.

I never got past Stargate SG-1 - the other series seemed forced and a bit convoluted, each trying to capture the 'lighting in a bottle' from the original series, and each falling flat on its ass in comparison! SGU IMO was the worst (best?) example of this. The character roster seemed to be a carbon-copy of 'Atlantis' with a few 'Big Bang Theory' people thrown in so fanboys could relate more. All-in-all, "Meh..."

As for 'Caprica' - BIG mistake... HUGE mistake!!! What does Syfy have left that's REALLY great 'Science Fiction'? ...'Warehouse 13'?! ...'Sanctuary'?!! ...'Eureka'??!!! PLEASE! The majority of the movies they run DEFINITELY aren't, and re-runs of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' only go so far... Maybe they should rename their channel to the 'FAIL Channel'!

On a side note - anyone seen their averts for the American version of 'Being Human'? Anyone catch the "An ORIGINAL Syfy series..." tagline? ...ORIGINAL?!! Just who the @$#! do they think they're kidding?!!! ANYONE who's got BBC America KNOWS that the series was ORIGINALLY a BRITISH show! The arrogance... (or more like 'The desperation...!)!

It made sense, then, that the network would try to hold on to those Tuesday night viewers when the fall months rolled around, despite the higher competition from the big networks. This fall it finally had a strong show to give it a go, and a reason why it had to try expanding to another night of the week (more on that next). Stargate was moved to Tuesdays at 9 p.m. for Season Two — up against ratings monsters Dancing With the Stars and NCIS: Los Angeles (which drew around 16 millions viewers each). Syfy was once again trying to expand its sphere of influence: it had never before aired original programming on Tuesday nights during the fall season.

Needless to say, the experiment was a failure. Both of its Tuesday fall shows — both continuations of popular, classic science fiction franchises — were canceled in 10 episodes or less
