The producer of Terminator Salvation believes that Christian Bale's temper tantrum and the film's PG-13 rating were factors in the movie under-performing at the box office.

TheArnoldFans.com was able to nab an interview with Terminator Salvation producer Victor Kubicek. In the summer of 2009 the fourth Terminator film was released, and with stars like Christian Bale, and Sam Worthington headlining the film most felt it was bound to be a hit, yet it was not. Victor stills stand by his film, and regrets that a few scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. He describes one such scene, "Imagine looking down on a verdant golf course surrounded by perfect homes and manicured lawns only to realize everything is synthetic and the people who live there are hybrids."

One of the issues with Salavation was that it was created under a PG-13 rating and not an R rating like the previous three films in the franchise. No one should make a film R rated just to get the rating, it should feel natural, but still the Terminator franchise isn't for small children. So when asked if the PG-13 rating hurt the film, Victor replied, "I think the PG-13 rating may have hurt the film but I guess we will never know. In hindsight, there are things I miss about the movie that didn’t end up on screen that would have certainly been prevalent in the R version of this story, but hey, you can’t go back in time, right?"

TheArnoldFans: Do you think the tantrum of Christian Bale (one of my all-time favorite Actors) had anything to do with the mediocre box office?

V.J.K: As for Christian Bale, I don’t think he quite did his personal best in this film and the tantrum was its own crazy thing that we should leave to him to explain. Did it turn off some people? Probably.

TheArnoldFans: How difficult was it to get Arnold onboard to lend his CG likeness? Roughly how many meetings, emails and calls did it take for Arnold to finally give in?

V.J.K: It was important to have Arnold in the film and he felt the same way. It wasn’t a protracted effort at all and from what I can recall he was very encouraging about it. He is this franchise in so many ways and we very much wanted to honor that. He was Governor at the time, but he always came through to support Terminator Salvation and is passionate about the franchise.

I believe for sure that Bale being a whiny bitch was the reason for the films underwhelming box office numbers. That being said, I enjoyed the film. It was better than 1&3. Shame too because Kristanna Loken is one of the best things to happen to the series. Only because she's way hotter than Linda oh my god I think she has a penis Hamilton. All things being said.

Also Lokken was great in Painkiller Jane and Bloodrayne. She was the only good part of Bloodrayne.

I thought I read someone saying this was better than Terminator 1..mist have been my imagination. Anyway I also thought this was ok, had its moments for sure. Bale phoned it in though, and Worthington was...Worthington.

you wanna know why it wasnt as much of a success. because theres a million fan boys like me that are more than happy that james cameron concluded the story in t2, cyberdyne was destroyed the chip also. the evidence of it was all gone, i can accept that, i cant accept a private vendor buying out the rights and becoming cyber research systems,
because thats just another studio trying to coin in

Victor had better block Bale's # if he doesn't want to be on the receiving end of one of Bale's rants.,

I know I wouldn't!

Okay story wise T1 was better. But salvation had better actors even though they were underutilized, was better effects, and honestly more heart.

i liked salvation, it was what 3 shouldve been in my mind, and as for Bale's temper tantrum, it wasnt that big a deal to me cause he's human like the rest of us. we have all at one time or another lost our tempers and made asses out of ourselves

Sam Worthington's shitty acting and McG's shaddy directing (as well as his stupid name) didn't help the film...but I think Bale's rant might've brought in more people than it pushed away.

Not a big deal but the 3rd was R- rated.

Besides the ending where they did the ol heart switcharoo, I enjoyed this movie. Sure there were some scenes that didn't logically make sense, but it's a movie about cybernetic killing machines and time travel, shit doesn't need to be completely logical.

I liked Salvation; however, there was a lot going on which made it complicated, but not smart. I even thought Bale was badass in it, which he usually is. At least he didn't do any unnecessary gravelly bat-voice...

Well, each to their own. I think the first Terminator is one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made and probably better than 2 actually.

Stunts and effects don't make a better movie..it was a better spectacle, and awesome don't get me wrong. But the first one had a tighter script and all round better performances imo. Plus Kyle Reece was in it. In the second one we had an annoying teenager instead. Sorry, but he was I don't care what anyone said. Edward Furlong stank up that screen.

Terminator 2, in my opinion, is one of the only examples where the sequel is better than the first in a series. Terminator 3 was complete shit, so I'd have to rank Salvation 3rd behind Terminator 2 and Terminator 1.

If they make a Terminator 5, which I'd be surprised if they didn't, I'd love to see James Cameron and Christian Bale both return for a new interesting director/actor combo.

T2 was the best as far as I'm concerned. T4 was pure trash. All believability vanishes the moment Skynet allows Kyle Reece to live, in order to catch John Connor. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And machines throwing people around, instead of just clenching their fist the moment they grab you (like the TX did to Connor in T3) is even stupider. Don't get me started on the PG-13 rating for a frackin' war movie. Stop trying to make everything family-oriented.

Terminator Salvation failed because it had next to no story. It had a great setting and some excellent action scenes but the story just wasn't there. The reviews tempered its buzz and people just chose to skip it.
Ryguy88

People saying it was better than T1 are just in it for the action. T1 is the best movie in the series, great hero, great villain and it had some iconic and influential glimpses of the future, a future which was more terrifying than the one depicted in Salvation. The scene where young Reese goes to the Skynet POW camp really dropped the ball imo. They could have really done something there, instead they just shuffle along and nothing happens.
