'The People Vs. George Lucas' Makes The SXSW!

Wow, and I thought only fanatic fan boys hated George. Guess not!

This from Deadline.com:

"A year ago, when I ran the teaser for The People vs George Lucas, comments flooded in both pro and con about this documentary. And the pic itself intrigues me because it features so many Industry types talking about Lucas in a negative way as they debate his legacy. (Like calling him the "anti-Christ" and "evil genius of marketing"....) Now the film has been selected for the Spotlight Premiere section at the South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in Austin next month."

Can't wait to see this in it's entirety!

As this depiction of George Lucas is exactly what George Lucas did not want to become, maybe it will push Lucas into actually making a solid decision regarding one of his upcoming projects? The only thing wrong with potential is that it has not been done yet. It seems as though George Lucas has turned into Darth Vader in his old age.

lol wierd

I think the man has problems. That's for sure, but saying he's the antichrist is kinda silly.

This is what happens to somebody who is surrounded by nothing but yesmen for 30 years.

He's on some kind of ego trip that shields him from reality.

When I watch this trailer, it seems like it is going to be a ploy to call on Lucas to continue on with the series, as well as to act as some sort of a confessional of both positive and negative thoughts about the man. Didn't seem to me that this doc will be all about the haters of Lucas or anything.
Speaking of hating on Lucas, Episode 3 seriously kicked some a$$. Loved it. It was reviewed more favorably than Jedi, by the way. People have a strange memory in regards to the OT. They act as though George completely failed with the prequels. If you measure the prequels by the OT, Lucas most certainly did not fail. All the flaws that were present in the Prequels, were present in the OT, except Episodes 1 & 2 have a heck a lot more of those flaws. I can understand being sore about it, but I really think Lucas succeeded at expanding on the Star Wars universe successfully, and for me, was all I ever hoped for in the first place. In review of Episode 3, Roger Ebert wrote, "George Lucas has achieved what few artists do; he has created and populated a world of his own."

I will fully agree that 1 & 2 are laden with a far greater abundance of flaws than any of the other films. Especially TPM. Hate the cartoon series, completely could care less about it. My point though, was that the punctuation of ROTS did not earn the kind of nerdy passionate disdain I hear from the dork community all the time. Just want credit where credit is due.
Be mad at the acting in 1 & 2, and even some of the story or characters, BUT!, Episode 3 deserves its title as Star Wars. Also, even the worst Star Wars film ever made was less manipulative and forced than that stupid, corny and predictable, Avatard, and everybody is treating that like the second coming or something, so go figure

I just can't bring myself to care about Star trek, don't know why. I will tell you one thing though, the original films (first 4 or so) were far better than that paint by numbers new one they just released. I know I'm in the minority here but the newest one barely peaked my interest, barely. Why was everybody so excited about it?

Personally I'm only a fan of the original episodes. I happen to agree with Lucasberg that Avaturd is really nothing to marvel at, outside of the special effects. But to say episode 3 was good? Really? I waited 20 yrs to see what a bad ass Vader was in his formative yrs only to see him cowardly and in cold blood kill little Jedi children? He was supposed to be the most powerful (besides Master Yoda) and the only other Jedi he fought against and lost was Obi Wan (no, him killing Mace Windu definitely does not count). What about the fact that I waited the entire movie waiting to see him the suit, only to have it be the last 2 mins of the movie. HUGE disappointment!!!
antz1104
antz1104 - 2/4/2010, 5:35 PM
I thought ep 3 was right up there with the originals. The tone it had should of been incorporated by ep 1, with the badass-ery getting better to ep 3.

I think Lucas finally went of the merry go round of sanity when he made that HORRIBLE clone wars movie and the following show. Granted, season 2 is good but the only bearable ones from the first were few and far between, usually involving kick ass clones. But to make a new product off the old one and market it to little kids? C'mon. LAME.

@Lucasberg
Amen. I also feel bad for George Lucas, I mean to me it looked like he was the victim of Having to many yesmen. Like in the 70 min TPM review "Film making is a collaborative process." I feel that he did not have the people behind him to criticize his ideas, and because he really felt like he had to live up to the hype that was put on the prequels, he tried to hard to give a compelling original story with characters you love. I mean it didn't come out that way, but at least i can live my life knowing that Lucas at least tried.

Star Trek and Avatar while being decent films, they were just a testament to cool graphics plus mediocre story equals box office gold.

They. Are. MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For crying out loud! Raped my childhood? If you base whether or not your childhood was meaningful upon how much you enjoyed a space movie than I'd say you had no childhood.

I really wish that some of these people would go out and live already. Read a book, enjoy nature, hug a loved one, kiss a girl, kiss a boy, WHATEVER! Someday you are going to DIE!

Hopefully that day is a long way off and when it comes you will have realized that Star Wars are just silly movies and George Lucas is just a guy.

lmao @ Luffy..."Bunch of gay ass nerds need to grow up"...right beneath, [frick]ing Naruto vid!

Anyway, all the raped my childhood stuff is a bit extreme, but I will never forgive the fat bearded twat for what he did with those prequels. Ep 3 was the best of em, but still full of miserable, piss poor acting and dialog. It speaks volumes that the greatest Star Wars movie made wasn't directed by him.

They both have very valid points actually.
Lucasberg
Lucasberg - 2/6/2010, 2:49 AM
Episode 3 had SOME moments of bad acting/dialogue. But much of it was still good, and some of it was even great. Ian Mcdermand (probably not how you spell his name) as the Emperor, delivered great acting through and through. Ewan as Obi-Wan was solid, and Hayden as Anakin had some decent stuff as well. Also, Yoda came across as, well...Yoda, which is an achievement that ought not be ignored either.
Additionally, it should be stated that, the dialogue in the OT was always riddled with bizarre/wierdly-bad conversations and off-beat performances the same as found in 3. My friends and I used to quote and make fun of its cheese dialogue all the time before the prequels existed. The fact that people expected deeper dialogue and characters than was given in 3 tells me that they expected something not Star Wars. I can understand the griping about the first 2 Episodes but, the third? Just seems like they must be blinded by nostalgia to not see clearly that the originals possessed the same flaws.
Whats more, these gripes are coming from the same people that praise to heck that formulaic, obvious, manipulative, LAME-O storytelling that is Avatar. Honestly, Avatar brings far less to the table than say, ummm... Titanic did- an admittedly over-rated movie of corniness. Avatar was like, the most predictable movie ever made.
How about Watchmen? Zack Snyder sucks! But still, so many want to defend that movie too. The Watchmen movie forces its view, its characters, and its drama on the viewer instead of allowing these elements to breathe and exist on the canvass. Thus the movie does not allow the viewer to observe and experience the movie for themselves. Even the animated motion comic was far more alive than that dead live action Watchmen because; its drama, characters, and story are all told so as to allow the viewer to consider and respond to them as they feel fit. Snyder forces his story, characters and drama with over indulgent slo-mo constantly and bland character development (because in his films, all he seems to care about, are visuals). Essentially, The Watchmen movie is 300 (a feature length trailer, not a movie) with better writing. The better writing only exists because of Moore's writing, not Snyder's directing. After the first third of the movie, the writing is almost entirely suffocated by Snyder's style.
My point is that, it seems like people were so mad at Lucas for the huge flaws present in the first 2 prequels so much so that, they were unwilling to see that he really achieved something worthy with 3, something Star Wars. And it just amazes me that so many, accept some real poop as quality all the same. The measuring rod for films then, is peoples expectations, not legitimate analysis of them most of the time.
