I can't say I'm looking forward to this version of Total Recall, since I'm unsure why they're remaking this classic sci-fi film. For all the knocks Arnold takes, this is one of his classic badass movies. The original got everything right, and this version is already off to a rocky start with news that the whole Mars angle is out. They removed Mars, and added a whole new angle involving nation states, Euromerica or its rival New Asia. Of course having Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale isn't gonna hurt, but Farrell is very hit or miss. I smell a miss coming.

Two apparently unrelated AICN readers - Qualité-Foofray and DeadStar - sent in spy pics of the filming of TOTAL RECALL. No sign of stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, John Cho, Bill Nighy, Ethan Hawke, Bryan Cranston, or Jessica Biel.

The first pics come from Qualité-Foofray, who says he/she...
Was in downtown Toronto today, around the Rogers Centre (formerly SkyDome) and the CN Tower, and Total Recall was all over the [frick]in place. My buddy and I first caught a glimpse of these "Federal Police". They looked like a cross between Stormtroopers and something out of Halo. My friend and I were in the area for an Apple Convention (the tech co. not the [frick]ing fruit), so the place was nerd heavy to begin with. We geeked out pretty hard when we realized we were looking at a pretty big set of Total [frick]ing Recall (love the shit out of the Arnie version - snuck into it 5 times when I was a kid). My buddy "Spart" and I are constantly spouting lines from the Verhoeven version, so this was pretty awesome for us.

Anyways, the convention blew nuts, so we ended up walking into the extras dressing area (they had a room in the convention centre). The guy there humored us and let us look around. We basically just saw the costumes of the troopers (they were pretty bad ass). When I left the room, I yelled to the guy "see you at the party, Richter" in my best Arnie voice. Guy looked at me like I was a loser. Maybe I am, but I couldn't resist.

When we left the convention centre, we went outside to get a better look at the shoot and we saw (image attached) a bad-ass looking flying cop car that really reminded me of the spinner from Blade Runner. It was on hydraulics and seemed to be moving around. Pretty cool shit. There seemed to be lots of extras in suits and plenty of troopers. No Farrel-Quaid though.

This set of images came in from DeadStar. He/she contextualized the images as showing "a big futuristic space train-station type thing... future commuters in New Asia. In the scene, a massive spaceship apparently breaks through to the area and a big riot starts in which the New Asians try to overcome the robot police... the adaptation is more faithful to the original novel by Philip K. Dick than the previous film with Arnold."

Yesterday, we literally stumbled upon the set of Total Recall outside the Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, ON.

The whole set up was pretty stealth with little signage around, but once we saw the futuristic police cars parked at the entrance of the Convention Center we knew exactly what was filming.

We were there before filming started so we missed out on the chance to see a possibly shirtless Colin Farrell or really get any scoop about what exactly they were filming, but we did see the cool police cars they were going to be using in the scene. They also had green screens surrounding the entire set so it looks like they will be replacing the Toronto backdrop with something completely different.(Link)

Total Recall will come to theatres August 3, 2012.
