ETERNALS & SHANG-CHI Sequels Reportedly Added To Marvel's Schedule - Could The Latter Feature Kang?

There have been conflicting reports about Marvel Studios' plans for an Eternals sequel, but so far, they have yet to announce a direct follow-up to Chloé Zhao's divisive 2021 movie - although Kevin Feige has confirmed that we will see the characters again.

We still don't have any official updates to share, but online scooper KC Walsh is now reporting that Marvel has added Eternals 2 to its production calendar, suggesting that the project has entered the earliest stages of development.

A sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (which has been officially announced) is also said to be on the schedule. Plot details are still a mystery, but a new rumor is claiming that several Variants of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania villain Kang will appear.

We're not too familiar with this source, so best not to put too much stock in this one just yet, but we do know that Kang is going to play a major role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward, so it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if he/they showed up in multiple upcoming projects.

It might also be worth noting that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton - who is set to return for the sequel - is attached to helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

What do you guys make of these rumors? Do you think moving forward with another Eternals movie is a wise move? Drop us a comment down below.

I would hope an Eternals sequel deals more with the Celestials and cosmic stuff than Kang.

A Shang-Chi sequel having Kang’s involvement in fine, but don’t lose the martial arts influences. I think a lot of people were hoping for Iron Fist to be involved as well.

@MotherGooseUPus - I felt that both of these movies were just OK, but the sequels could be better now that the origins are done.

Eternals - go full on crazy with Celestials and cosmic beings as they adventure through space. Celestials warn of coming incursions.

Shang Chi - The rings are still broadcasting their mysterious signal, which sends him to K’un alum and he meets the Iron fist. They uncover the mystery of the rings signals is sending out a message to another dimension, and the people in that dimension are silenced when their universe ends in an incursion.

Kang in everything? No, thanks.

@Repian - My guess is he will be.

He will be the creator of rhe rings and Kamala's bangle (and the other that will appear in Marvels).

@Fogs - I would bet that Immortus will be the villain of Shang Chi 2.

It is strange that a Shang Chi sequel hasn't been talked about more. After Wakanda forever, it has probably been the best movie of phase 4. Black Widow also looks pretty good now compared with the majority of MCU movies after infinity saga.

@UniqNo - Probably because Destin Daniel Cretton is busy with Kang Dynasty and Wonder Man. Personally, I think Shang-Chi 2 and Doctor Strange 3 will both happen before Secret Wars, and that KD and SW will each by delayed by another year to allow for more movies and to spread the shows out more

@TUD - That's a fair asumption. They really did bite off alot for this saga. Just give me a good deadpool 3 and i can happliy wait longer if needed for the rest.

@UniqNo - I prefer Shang Chi over BP2 tbh.

The only misstep was in the end battle with all the crazy explosive stuff, which is so worn off by now.

BP had some cool character moments but I'd watch SC instead if it's on TV or smth.

@Fogs - Yeah, Marvel has given itself a 3rd act problem with always having to go big and VFX heavy. I think Wakanda Forever did a better job with their 3rd act, in my opinion.

Whilst Shang Chi was good, it was that character's first appearance, so it definitely had that 'Fresh' aspect to it. I would say I preferred Wakanda Forever over Shang-Chi that because it made me feel something with the actors portraying the loss and the meta aspect with Chadwick and that whole Namor plot was dope. Shang Chi was cool visually with the martial arts etc and was entertaining, but I didn’t care for his daddy issues.

@Fogs - Wakanda Forever is the better film of the two imo, but I prefer Shang Chi on rewatch mostly because it's popcorn fun.

@McMurdo @UniqNo I think we have clearly a common ground here: Shang Chi wins in the fun factor.

Tho I admit I want to rewatch some Namor stuff, guess I'll do it at D+.

@Fogs @McMurdo - I can agree with you on the rewatchability of Shang-Chi over WF, plus it's nearly 30 min shorter.
Fogs
Fogs - 2/23/2023, 10:57 AM
@UniqNo - TBH both are mid level in my book. I like parts of them but they're no Infinity War, which I'd watch entirely right now, lol.

@Fogs - 100% Infinity War and Avengers are peak MCU. I don't think anything will ever recapture the zeitgiest of comic book movies aswell as those 2. at least not this decade. It's starting to wear out it's takeover.

@Fogs - lol ya I kinda only wanna rewatch Namor scenes myself. He was pretty badass in that film.

@UniqNo - I don't feel like it should be that hard to give us something on the level of Avengers 2012 and IW. It's all about the screenwriter. Those two films are just really well done and most importantly, really well written.
UniqNo
UniqNo - 2/23/2023, 12:15 PM
@McMurdo - I think now in the 2020's possibly a bit more than that's needed. A good script certainly won't hurt though.

AVENGERS 2012 was the realisation all these guys are actually sharing the screen together in live action for the first time! with the typical quippy Joss Whedon shtick...say what you want about the guy but he cracked that.

Infinity war was kind of the same with the extended MCU having the Guardians, Wakandans and Thanos' goons finally involved and how wide the scope was with space travel etc and also actually had the good guys loose and die (at the time).

It will take alot more than that now plus the multiverse stuff with legacy actors to get us really excited. I'm intrigued though. I still believe in Feige
I'm probably most excitement to see Jackman finally suit up properly as Wolverine.

@UniqNo - I’d agree if Chadwick was still alive but that’s the general consensus. Shuri was understandably blind but I didn’t feel it was executed properly. Shang Chi was damn near flawless to me
UniqNo
UniqNo - 2/23/2023, 12:51 PM
@Mrtoke - You really think so about Shuri? Condisering the cards that production was dealt I honestly I felt her arc was executed really well and have finally started coming around to Ramonda's death a bit more, with the understanding on the effect this had on her going vengeful and then meeting Killmonger. I still hate the fact they killed her off like that, but I get it.

Shang-Chi was definitely a solid flick but didn't hit me in the feels the same way.

@UniqNo - she was kinda giving entitled vibes. Not listening to anybody but I’d feel the same way if the person I’m going to war with just killed my mom. I just feel Letitia could’ve done a better job. The final battle on the ship wasn’t doing it for me. Only liked Shuri vs Namor, especially when she ripped one ankle wing off. Loved it. I feel the way about Shang Chi as a film for it’s rewatchability. Similar to gotg and the avengers

@UniqNo @Fog - Shang chi is like BP1 for me, a great film ruined by a unnecessary cgi heavy 3rd act, It did make more sense with Shang chi but it still annoying.

Maybe a back to back and joint production shoot. Unless they've already eyed a replacement.
