Marvel Studios officially announced Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings during their panel earlier tonight and also revealed Simu Liu as its leading man. Plus, the real Mandarin is coming to the MCU!

Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has found its star in Simu Liu (Kim's Convenience; Taken), who was actually just cast this past Tuesday in preparation for tonight's San Diego Comic-Con presentation.

Additionally, Kevin Feige confirmed Tony Leung (Internal Affairs) has joined the film as The Mandarin - the real Mandarin - and he also revealed Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) has been cast in an undisclosed role, which is certainly intriguing, to say the least.

Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) is directing and the film has been confirmed for a February 12, 2021 release date.

SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS

Feige spoke about the feature film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and detailed how the legend has been hinted at in the MCU films since the first “Iron Man.”

In an unanticipated surprise for all, Kevin Feige then announced the confirmed casting of Simu Liu in the title role of Shang-Chi and both the actor and the director, Destin Daniel Cretton, came on stage to greet the audience. Kevin also shared with the audience the casting of Awkwafina in a yet-to-be-disclosed role. Then, Kevin revealed to the Hall H audience that the real Mandarin will be played by celebrated Chinese actor Tony Leung.

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will be in theaters on February 12, 2021.

Awkwafina's getting an Oscar nomination for The Farewell, so that's a great get for Marvel. Unfamiliar with Simu Liu though

@tmp3 - Watch Kim's Convenience on Netflix - Simu Liu is funny, dramatic, and has bags of charisma. A real leading man! He can be the new Downey Jr though he is much younger, can lead Marvel movies for years.

@PantherKing - She's also in Neighbors 2 and Ocean's 8 in smaller roles, but holy crap is she great in The Farewell. And she got cast in that BEFORE she was cast in that before she was cast in Ocean's 8 to be comedic

I'm actually very interested in this. Never even heard of Shang Chi until they announced he was in development. Still a long ways off, but I may check it out. The Mandarin being the main villain is just perfect.

Aldrich Killian: "I AM THE REAL MANDARIN! I know this scene makes no sense whatsoever but you can't complain now, fans!!!"

Honestly, Tony Stark should have been the one to defeat the Ten Rings. They're the reason he became Iron Man to begin with, and they are intrinsically linked to his character arc.

Iron Man 3 did a godawful job wrapping up the series, and now Marvel has to address the loose ends in another franchise. It's no wonder the MCU has already retconned that movie to pieces. Tony's retirement, giving up the arc reactor, the entire Mandarin debacle, ETC.
