Shazam! 2 is still a long way off (April 1st, 2020, to be precise), but director David F. Sandberg has admitted that shooting could be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the movie is currently in the pre-production stage as work on the sequel's script continues, the plan was to start filming later this year to, presumably, coincide with Black Adam

"Well, we'll see how long this goes, because I mean, we were going to start shooting this year," he told ComicBook.com when asked about a possible delay. "But, I mean, who knows how long this will go on? I mean, it feels like every movie gets delayed now, so we'll see what happens with Shazam!"

"But so far, I've been working on the script. We can still do that, so that's being done and then, yeah, we'll just see in a couple of months how it looks, you know?" he concluded.

We don't actually know whether the plan is for Shazam! 2 to tie into Black Adam in some way, but it would certainly make sense for there to be a cameo or post-credits scene setting the stage for an eventual meeting between the two magically powered superheroes.

It's still too soon to say if this sequel will be delayed as a result of the ongoing pandemic, but Dwayne Johnson recently acknowledged the possibility that his Black Adam movie could fail to start shooting in July. We'll obviously keep you guys updated as the situation continues to develop.

Good. I hated the first.

@MarvelousMarty - it was very boring and basic I would understand why people love it of the movie came out in the early 2000s or even the 90s. The ending was too ambitious for the budget they had.

I didn’t really like the first one very much, which surprised me after hearing good things about it from others. It tried to be so many things that none of them felt developed enough to work for me. It was tonally inconsistent in a jarring way, had way too many characters in the family that were barely fleshed out yet a huge part of the ending, the main kid and his Shazam alter ego didn’t mesh as a singular character, and the villain, while well performed, had no discernible goal.

@Chewtoy - I think that the actor who played the disabled would be a better fit for Shazam tbh.

@JustALurker - Having never read the comics and just going from a character perspective, it seems like having the kid who needs crutches yet has a positive attitude turn into the upbeat version of Shazam we see on the screen would be a more natural fit, premise wise.

In my opinion, this is the best film of the DCEU, so I'm very hyped to get the sequel. I love that Zachary Levi has finally hit the big time.

Really enjoyed the first one, but if they delay this any further, the “kid” is going to be about 20
