With Shazam! Fury of the Gods now in theaters, director David F. Sandberg has been answering questions about his DC Comics sequel on Twitter, and the filmmaker has shared some intriguing new details about the movie's mid-credits scene.

In the sequence, we see A.R.G.U.S. agents John Economos (Steve Agee) and Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) approaching Shazam as he's excitedly blasting bottles with his sparkle-fingers. They ask if he'd like to join the Justice Society, which he agrees to (after initially expecting them to say Justice League).

Sandberg was asked why he chose these particular characters for the scene, and revealed that it was originally going to feature members of the Justice Society before things "fell apart."

He doesn't specify who, but some combination of Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and/or Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) seems most likely. Was the plan to connect Fury of the Gods to a potential Black Adam sequel and finally have Shazam and the Man in Black square-off?

Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.

From New Line Cinema comes Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!,” is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars returning cast members Zachary Levi (Thor: Ragnarok) as Shazam; Asher Angel (Andi Mack) as Billy Batson; Jack Dylan Grazer (It Chapter Two) as Freddy Freeman; Adam Brody (Promising Young Woman) as Super Hero Freddy; Ross Butler (Raya and the Last Dragon) as Super Hero Eugene; Meagan Good (Day Shift) as Super Hero Darla; D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Super Hero Pedro; Grace Caroline Currey (Annabelle: Creation) as Mary Bromfield / Super Hero Mary; Faithe Herman (This Is Us) as Darla Dudley; Ian Chen (A Dog’s Journey) as Eugene Choi; Jovan Armand (Second Chances) as Pedro Pena; Marta Milans (White Lines) as Rosa Vasquez; Cooper Andrews (The Walking Dead) as Victor Vasquez; with Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place Part II) as Wizard.

Joining the cast are Rachel Zegler (West Side Story), with Lucy Liu (Kung Fu Panda franchise) and Helen Mirren (F9: The Fast Saga).

The superhero sequel is set to hit theaters on March 17, 2023.

I had more fun watching the justice society than anything with the justice league

Oh wow! It was just a coincidence that it happens to link to Gunns and Safran's franchise Peacemaker. Boy! That clears up everything!

@Forthas - I can’t remember if Gunn was going to incorporate Peacemaker into his new DCU but I hope he doesn’t. I’d prefer he just make Peacemaker an elseworld story instead.

@Arthorious - People keep telling me that Peacemaker is so very popular but I have a difficult time finding viewership numbers that could PROVE it is as popular as people say it is.

So until I get that, I think they should cancel it!

@Forthas - It’s so much harder to talk about things like that nowadays. Not only are numbers harder to find and not actually officially released but the numbers we do get from places like Nielsen are listed in such a way that it’s not an even playing field. And the biggest monkey wrench is even when you get them they don’t mean nearly as much because streaming services don’t actually work the same way as linear channels.

@TheUnworthyThor - Great point! I would expect however that it would be something that a studio would brag about. For example this article from Variety goes out of its way to give the number of viewers for House of the Dragon.

https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/house-of-the-dragon-finale-ratings-viewers-1235412702/

So clearly the studio wants that information to be out there. But those are few and far between like you stated so I am always confused that when people make claims of a show being a "hit" when they don't show the number of viewers.

Until you just pointed it out, I did not even know that Nielson kept these stats!

@Forthas - The problem with Nielsen is they rank them by number of minutes. So if you have a half hour show you would need more than twice as many viewers as an hour long show to rank higher. And any place that releases the whole season at once has a huge advantage over any service that releases their shows weekly. And they count every episode ever released as part of the show so that shows like Grey’s Anatomy and NCIS that have hundreds of episodes appear on the lists all the time because one person binge watching Grey’s is worth so many more minutes than a person just watching this weeks episode of Picard or whatever.

I don’t get why people are complaining she’s in things. Yes she’s married to Gunn but it’s not like she’s any where near a bad actor.
