We know that Henry Cavill is out as Superman and the DCU will also be getting a new Batman, but DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran still haven't provided any definitive answers when it comes to most of the other "SnyderVerse era" actors.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi seemed confident that he'd be staying on as the hero at first, but soon admitted that his future as the Big Red Cheese was far from certain. Now, the DC Comics sequel's director has weighed in.
David F. Sandberg was asked whether "Shazam will have a role in future DCU" on Twitter, and it sounds like the potential is there - if Fury of the Gods is a big enough box office success.
"He definitely won’t if people don’t go see the movie," responded the filmmaker. "What I’ve been told is that there’s nothing in the Shazam films that contradict the future plans for DC. So the possibility for more Shazam is there and if that’s what you want your best bet is to go see the film."
So, as long as these upcoming movies/characters don't contradict Gunn and Safran's plans, they might be safe? Probably best not to assume anything, but it certainly sounds like Shazam may fly again.
"Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world."
From New Line Cinema comes Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!,” is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam.
