SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS Reportedly Bringing Back The Wizard; Mark Strong Says Doctor Sivana Won't Return

A new report claims that Djimon Hounsou will reprise his role as The Wizard in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, while Cruella's Mark Strong confirms that he won't be returning as the villainous Doctor Sivana...

Shazam! Fury of the Gods has begun production, and while the story is being kept under wraps, some major casting additions have pointed to the Shazam Family battling the daughters of Atlas (the first "A" in "Shazam"). Where does that leave Doctor Sivana and Mister Mind? Remember, an alliance was teased in Shazam!'s mid-credits scene, so Sivana's return seems inevitable.

Unfortunately, actor Mark Strong confirms to Den of Geek that he won't be coming back for the sequel.

"I literally spoke to the producer last night, because I saw that Zach Levi tweeted that they’re about to start shooting in Atlanta," he tells the site. "Doctor Sivana isn’t in Shazam! 2."

"What’s happened is, I think Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu and perhaps someone else — they’ve got some female villains in. And to be honest with you, I’m very happy to take a back seat to some female villains and let them have a go, because judging by the work that Emma Thompson and Emma Stone have done in Cruella, it’s about time."

Despite that, Strong admits that he remains open to returning to the Shazam! franchise somewhere down the line. "Who knows? He’s still got unfinished business with Mister Mind."

In related news, Murphy's Multiverse is reporting that Djimon Hounsou will be back for the sequel as The Wizard. While he had been reduced to ash by the end of the movie, it would make perfect sense for him to play a part in this story in flashbacks (especially if we're going to explore the origins of the Shazam Family's powers). You have to believe Hounsou will also factor into Black Adam.

Love how he takes him not being in it with grace instead of complaining.
Wouldn't mind seeing more of Sivana down the line though

IMO the best DCEU villain so far.

They should keep that production logo and use it on tie-in a Gatorade bottle.

I mean I’m more interested in what we are getting personally but I think if they don’t start crossing over with Black Adam after this film I’m going to start losing interest. I’m not a huge Shazam fan traditionally outside of his appearances in JLU and New 52 anyway so if they don’t start getting to either Black Adam or crossing him over with the other characters I see this wearing thin for me 🤷🏽‍♂️

Damn, I was hoping Mr. Mind would be the villain. Oh well, guess we'll get them later on. Still excited because the first one was really good. Not a fan of the "Marvel Family" right off the bat, but I like all the characters so it works for me

@Dredd97 - Maybe they are planning in a long game to build up Mr Mind's Monster Society of Evil. Like now they are doing the Shazam sequel and Black Adam movie. Than a crossover where Black Adam faces Shazam. Then a big finale movie, where both Shazam family and Black Adam family fight the Monster Society.

@Odin - I could see that. I could actually see Shazam vs Black Adam being an event movie as opposed to Shazam 3. But we'll see what happens I guess. A lot riding on a sequel to the best DC movie in a while

Not really surprised since they're going to focus on Greek mythology anyway. Guess they're gonna keep the Monster Society of Evil for Shazam 3, which hopefully also includes Black Adam
