SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS STAR Grace Caroline Currey Was Up For The Role Of X-MEN's Jean Grey

Grace Caroline Currey, who will take flight as Mary Marvel in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, has revealed that she auditioned to play Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse prior to Sofie Turner landing the role.

Grace Caroline Currey (then Grace Fulton) debuted as Mary Bromfield in the first Shazam! movie, but her superhero alter-ego was played by Michelle Borth.

In David F. Sandberg's upcoming sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Currey will play both roles and get the opportunity to suit-up as Mary Marvel herself, and the actress has now revealed that she had an earlier brush with a well-known superhero character a few years prior.

“You know, I auditioned for X-Men back in the day for Jean Gray," she tells The Direct. "Yeah, to play young Jean Gray, which... Sophie Turner did that. She got the part."

Turner debuted as Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse before going on to reprise the role for Dark Phoenix. Both movies were seen as disappointments after the critically-acclaimed Days of Future Past, and the latter proved to be the final nail in the franchise's coffin after Disney's acquisition of Fox's assets.

Unfortunately, Currey's tenure as Mary Marvel might prove to be just as short-lived now that the DCU is under new management!

When asked if there was another Marvel Comics character she might be interested in, Currey admitted that she is "such a DC person," and hand't given it much thought.

Do you think Grace Caroline Currey would have been a good pick for Jean Grey? If not, could you see her playing a different X-Men character? Drop us a comment down below, and check out a recently released clip from Fury of the Gods.

"Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world."

From New Line Cinema comes Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!,” is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars returning cast members Zachary Levi (Thor: Ragnarok) as Shazam; Asher Angel (Andi Mack) as Billy Batson; Jack Dylan Grazer (It Chapter Two) as Freddy Freeman; Adam Brody (Promising Young Woman) as Super Hero Freddy; Ross Butler (Raya and the Last Dragon) as Super Hero Eugene; Meagan Good (Day Shift) as Super Hero Darla; D.J. @Dotanuki - She honestly would have done a lot better in the role and would have still be part of a superhero franchise.
