SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS Star Zachary Levi Spotted On Vacation With New DC Studios Boss Peter Safran

With many fans already raging at DC Studios for recasting Superman, some new photos of Shazam! star Zachary Levi on holiday with Peter Safran have further incensed those unsure of plans for the DCU...

There's still a lot of uncertainty surrounding what DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have planned for the DCU, but some early decisions have already come under fire.

The news that Henry Cavill will not continue playing Superman has proven to be the biggest issue for many people, while Gal Gadot's time as Wonder Woman could be nearing its end as well. All signs point to this new DCU moving on from the Snyderverse era of storytelling, and when those movies have such a vocal fanbase...well, the backlash was inevitable.

With Gunn still thought to be developing Peacemaker season 2 and Safran a producer of the Shazam! franchise, there are a lot of fans out there who believe the duo will keep the DCEU actors they're friends with, all while dumping those who were once cast by Zack Snyder.

We're really not convinced that will be the case, but something that's added fuel to the fire is the fact Safran's wife, Natalia, has shared a series of vacation photos from a family holiday in Aspen, Colorado...with Shazam himself, Zachary Levi, in tow!

The actor recently addressed his friendship with both DC Studios heads, saying: "So, your question is, 'If those two are my bosses, is there a plan and a future for Shazam!?' I would say, 'Yeah.' I would hope so.' Those are my friends, and if they don't have a plan, then they are not my friends anymore. No sir."

That last part is a joke, but Gunn and Safran are guaranteed to find themselves hit by nepotism claims depending on who is and isn't recast. There's still a chance the DCU will be a full-blown reboot, but if the DCU has a new Superman and Wonder Woman and the same Peacemaker and Shazam, we can only imagine the hashtags that will follow!

Good idea, actually.

Knowing Levi and Safran are friends makes me believe Levi's time at DC isn't over. Same with Jennifer Holland. They will just return in different roles.

@bkmeijer1 - I wonder what role Levi would be better suited as.

@bkmeijer1 - Letting friendship getting in the way of business is a bad idea. Pretty sure someone like Safran know how to keep the two separate.

Friends or not. If the movie tanks, his time is up. Business is business and grown men know this.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - Yeah, it would be one to observe. Though Shazam was a critical success the overall groos wasn't that much more than the Black Adam's.

I'm expected Fury of the Gods to probably do the same business.

I don't think Shazam will get a 3rd, but i think Levi will be used in a team up or as a supporting character in someone else's movie.

@UniqNo - The die was cast when Hamada or some other studio genius authorized Black Adam to get a solo movie and Shazam 2 to feature Helen Mirren as the super-villain -- instead of the logical choice Black Adam. You can't make this shit up. Now Shazam 2 will put up disappoont box office numbers and that will be the end of the franchise. At least for the rest of the decade while Gunn reboots.

@GeneralZod - Na i think they did try and get Black Adam for the sequel. But as Rock was already locked into that role and refused to be introduced in someone else's movie they couldn't force it.

Dumb business all around but let's hope Safran and Gunn cook up something better and stick it out.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - it doesnt matter if it tanks. he will still be shazam. they already know now that they will lose receipts on the fact that these movies are worthless because of the impending new era. unless his slate reveals that these movies still count alot of people will choose to not invest time in them until the new era begins.

I thought Shazam was pretty great and I also like Levi. Seems like a super cool guy. But I think John Cena would have been way superior as Shazam. Besides the fact that he is actually a mountain of muscles, that Shazam should be, he has this pure, naive facial expression of a child. With Levi/Angel there is always something off. You dont see the same character in a different body. You see two different characters.

Gonna be honest, I dont like this kind of nepotism.
Everyone has to go, you cant just keep the people you like, the whole DCEU is rotten.

I love my boy James, but I dont like, AT ALL, how he keeps pushing his wife in these proyects, and btw, I like her character, but its obvious they reason why she will remain in the DCU.

@TheHumanSpider2 - I do kinda expect Jennifer Holland, Jason Mamoa and Zachary Levi to stick around for the new DCU. Just not in the same roles.

I don't mind this kind of nepotism though. Like you say, Harcourt is a character that works. And maybe the only reason her character exists is because Gunn wrote it for it. That's a win-win in my opinion.

@bkmeijer1 - Jason is Aquaman, no way around it.
Zach should be recast, although, again, that would be nepotism, you are giving him that chance, but not Gal?
And lets talk about the elephant in the room; keeping Ezra, which makes absolute no sense.

I think it’s Levi’s shockingly white veneers that are unsettling.

Did we ever actually see the face of any of the other hero’s in Shazam’s movie. We definitely didn’t see Superman’s face.

If not then why assume that it’s set in the snyderverse?

Easy loophole

@philinterrupted - There was the one batarang and superman suit that were in the Snyder line of films but otherwise generic imagery that can be accounted for.

I get the vibe that some people kind of see the ability to fire your friends as a perk of being a boss. Like, that’s part of the fantasy for some people that they can destroy their personal connections to show how great they are at “business”.

@noahthegrand - “yes, grovel for me friend. Invite me on a ski trip. I’ll still fire you anyway but first tell me how great I am and how much your livelihood depends on me”. -the fantasy of certain people in this comments section

Can current technology even measure the amount of a$$ kissing ole Zach is doing on this vacation?

Tbh Shazam didn't appear on-screen with any of the DCEU characters. He could technically be part of the DCU

Maybe Gunn was just killing everything Snyder related. I'd rather a full reboot to save confusion.
