There's still a lot of uncertainty surrounding what DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have planned for the DCU, but some early decisions have already come under fire.
The news that Henry Cavill will not continue playing Superman has proven to be the biggest issue for many people, while Gal Gadot's time as Wonder Woman could be nearing its end as well. All signs point to this new DCU moving on from the Snyderverse era of storytelling, and when those movies have such a vocal fanbase...well, the backlash was inevitable.
With Gunn still thought to be developing Peacemaker season 2 and Safran a producer of the Shazam! franchise, there are a lot of fans out there who believe the duo will keep the DCEU actors they're friends with, all while dumping those who were once cast by Zack Snyder.
We're really not convinced that will be the case, but something that's added fuel to the fire is the fact Safran's wife, Natalia, has shared a series of vacation photos from a family holiday in Aspen, Colorado...with Shazam himself, Zachary Levi, in tow!
The actor recently addressed his friendship with both DC Studios heads, saying: "So, your question is, 'If those two are my bosses, is there a plan and a future for Shazam!?' I would say, 'Yeah.' I would hope so.' Those are my friends, and if they don't have a plan, then they are not my friends anymore. No sir."
That last part is a joke, but Gunn and Safran are guaranteed to find themselves hit by nepotism claims depending on who is and isn't recast. There's still a chance the DCU will be a full-blown reboot, but if the DCU has a new Superman and Wonder Woman and the same Peacemaker and Shazam, we can only imagine the hashtags that will follow!
