Christoph Waltz Will NOT Play The Lizard In Spider-Man Reboot!

According to SuperHeroHype, the Green Hornet star is most definitely not in the running for a role in Marc Webb's Spider-Man 2012 reboot...

Last week, an inside source told The Playlist that the Green Hornet and Inglourious Basterds star Christoph Waltz was up for the villainous role of Curt Connors, aka The Lizard. Well, SuperHeroHype claim to have spoken directly to a source inside Sony who has debunked the rumour!

"SuperHeroHype has spoken directly to sources inside the production and there is definitively no truth to this rumor... a blogger's wishful thinking perhaps? Our sources say that when the role is cast, there will be a great actor involved."

So there you have it. One source says he's in the movie and another says he's not! Are you pleased with this news or disappointed? Share your thoughts about this in the usual place!

what makes me laugh is this loads of rumors from other website saying a actor is been casted to play a character in a comic book movie and they always say its a reliable source who works for studio. all this so call reliable source is full of SH!T at the end of the day.

maybe its a good thing Christoph Waltz is not doing it cause this reboot does not feel right at all.

I never really believed this rumour anyway. Sure, he'd make a great villain in this movie but Curt Connors' not German last time I checked anyway, lol! :P I think that Andrew Garfield is a good choice for Peter Parker so I'm staying optimistic about this reboot. For now!

When it comes to villains I'd prefer Electro, Scorpion or Green Goblin. Kraven and Lizard together would be awesome, but on their own? Meh.

I noticed that they didn't deny that the Lizard is the villain.

Good. He is a great villian. But to much exposure and he will lose his charm. (@ Mark Strong)

I wish they would just make Spider-man 4 with Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield, it would lessen the confusion amongst the general public of why everything is different only 4 or 5 years after a popular franchise, and it would mean no origin stuff, and we could have the great J.K Simmons back as Jonah. Also I think fans would prefer Dylan Baker become the lizard, the buildup would be much more satisfying.

Nice one Josh. Although you still never REALLY know. Studios always say "Not true" whenever they are asked about this type of stuff. Like you say, until Sony confirm/debunk it one way or another its just one "inside source" against another. But I hope its actually not him. I think he's great but I dunno, maybe not for this part. Also, has Lizard been confirmed to be the villain yet? Cos if not, SSF's sources just did that too!

Ror: I got the same thing from that statement...when the role is cast. To me that means the Lizard all the way.

JoshWilding - 8/11/2010, 6:11 PM
Great point ROR! I didnt actually notice that about the Lizard! I still think that there are better villains they could go for but I'd be ok with that! :P And I completely agree with what you're saying about "inside sources" - it's best to just take all of it with a huge pinch of salt until we get official confirmation! Remember all those actors who were supposed to be locked in to play Captain America from these types of studio insiders? John Krasinski and his huge nose still haunt my nightmares... ;D

He's a good actor, but the villain in The Green Hornet is enough for me. I'd like for him to have a little more range, we know he has the potential.

He's too old anyway, they need the actor in the Spiderman 2 and 3 back to play the Lizard because he was the right age.

He's not too old and only three years older than Dylan Baker, the actor who played Dr. Connors in Spider-Man 2 and 3.
