The weekend box office actuals are in for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures'
Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the Jon Watts-directed superhero blockbuster has gotten off to an amazing $111 million start internationally, which includes a spectacular $98 million from China.
With that kind of start, the critically-acclaimed
Far From Home is pacing 46% ahead of
Spider-Man: Homecoming and is now on pace to top $200 million in the Middle Kingdom. For comparison's sake,
Homecoming finished its box office run in China with $116 million, a figure the sequel will likely top within its first week of release.
In other comic book movie news, the re-release of Marvel's
Avengers: Endgame managed to pull in $6.1 million domestically and $2.3 million overseas, taking its worldwide haul to $2.764 billion. The Russo Brothers-directed Infinity Saga finale is now approximately $23 million behind James Cameron's
Avatar, and for the time being, it appears
Endgame will not be taking the record before the end of its run.
On a more positive note, Keanu Reeves' action extravaganza,
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, has roared past $300 million worldwide. Its total collection now stands at a franchise-best $303.6 million ($161.3M domestic; $142.3M foreign).
