With 2022 on its way out, we're going to start looking ahead to next year with our epic 2023 movie preview, where we'll spotlight nearly every major upcoming release studio-by-studio.

Sony Pictures is next up on our list and we're expecting them to have a much better year next year with the long-awaited arrival of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse! The first one grossed over $375 million on an estimated $90 million production budget, and we're betting this one will do considerably better after all that positive Oscar buzz, and the inclusion of hundreds of new Spider-People!

They also have Kraven the Hunter and The Equalizer 3 coming next Fall and a Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel to close out the year, which should also produce positive results at the box office.

65

Sony unveiled the official teaser trailer for their mysterious Sam Raimi-produced sci-fi thriller 65 this morning, revealing that it will indeed follow Adam Driver as he crash lands on a planet with dinosaurs! How he and his only surviving passenger survive the most unimaginable of circumstances remains to be seen, but this looks like it's going to be a lot of fun!

Cast: Adam Driver, Ariana Greenblatt, and Chloe Coleman

Release Date: March 10

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

To say Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the most anticipated superhero movie of 2023 might be an understatement and the hype has never been higher after yesterday's show-stopping trailer that reintroduced us to Miles Morales and teased his latest adventure where he finds himself up on the run from Spider-Man 2099!

Release Date: June 2

No Hard Feelings

Following the well-received Causeway, J-Law is back next summer with No Hard Feelings, a coming-of-age comedy-drama, where she'll play a character who answers a Craigslist ad that was placed by a mother for someone to date her son before he enters college.

Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Andrew Barth Feldman, Matthew Broderick, Natalie Morales, Laura Benanti, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Scott MacArthur, Kyle Mooney, Hasan Minhaj, Jarquez McClendon, and Alysia Joy Powell

Release Date: June 30

Gran Turismo

Based on the best-selling video game series of the same name, Gran Turismo is based on a true story and will follow a teenage player, who applies their skills to competitions around the world on his path to become a real race car driver.

The Equalizer 3

For the first time sinze Man on FIre, Denzel Washington reunites with one-time co-star Dakota Fanning for the third installment in his Equalizer franchise and with Antoine Fuqua back in the director's chair, this should be an enjoyable ride next Fall.

Release Date: September 1

Kraven the Hunter

Sony's Spider-Man(less) Universe takes its next step toward becoming a cohesive cinematic universe with Kraven the Hunter and while there's ample reason to be skeptical, the early buzz from insiders has been fairly positive and there's a good chance it actually surprises with J. C. Chandor behind the camera.

Cast: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, Russell Crowe, and Levi Miller.

Release Date: October 6

Untitled Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sequel

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a welcome success last year, grossing over $204 million on an estimated $75 million production budget, so it should come as no surprise that Sony wanted to get the band back together for another chapter. It remains to be seen whether the film will meet that winter release date, especially with Gil Kenan recently taking over directing duties, but the studio has dated the pictures, so bring in the holidays with the Ghostbusters!

Cast: Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, and Finn Wolfhard

Release Date: December 20

Early Look at 2024

  • El Muerto (January 12)
  • Madame Web (February 16)

  • Garfield (May 24)
  • Untitled The Karate Kid Film (June 7)

Across the Spider-Verse is the only one that really interests me, although I must admit Gran Turismo does intrigue me. Not the premise I expected a race movie to have.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - the F1 show? That was fun at times, but I think GT will be vastly different. Look forward to it nonetheless though

@bkmeijer1 - yes. I just need it to have that same intensity if that makes sense , racing movies can be fantastic if executed well

@ShimmyShimmyYA - execution is definitely important for a racing movie.

And now that I think about it, I can't think of one didn't have a good execution. I so far enjoyed all the ones I remember watching.

That Gran Turismo synopsis is pretty interesting. I'm intrigued. And Geri Halliwell is in the cast list?!

65 looks like an early to 2000s movie and that's what excites me the most. Plus Adam Driver and dinosaurs, a win win.

Glad the real Equalizer is back and not the fat middle aged woman from the tv show.

Also glad Jennifer Lawrence is back making movies paving the way for more actresses. Without her there would be no Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, Linda Hamilton in Terminator, Uma Thurman as Beatrix Kiddo, Michelle Rodriguez in everything she's been in, Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and all the other badass action females.

Good to see The Equalizer in that list. Denzel always brings his A game.

Wait, gran turismo is getting a movie? The game has no plot. Like at that point you're literally just making up a story about cars then slapping a popular video game title on there for recognition.

So when are we getting the next big summer action film, tetris?

If they’re calling this one Across the Spiderverse Part 1, why is the follow up called Beyond the Spiderverse? Why not just drop the “part 1” and call this Across the Spiderverse? Unless the arclenis wrong and the follow up is called Across the Spiderverse Part 2.
