Joseph Gordon-Levitt Shares His Thoughts on the Spider-Man Reboot!

The 28-year-old actor would only offer a series of shrugs and sly grins when the topic of taking over the role of Peter Parker came up...

This from MTV's Splash Page:

"I've had some really cool conversations about what he (Marc Webb) wants to do with it, and I think it's going to be a really good movie." he said.

"I think it's the smartest thing they could have done because movies like that are good when they're not just big action movies, but when they have a humanity to them and a heart, like 'The Dark Knight' and 'Iron Man,'" he explained.

"And Marc Webb, it's what he did with '(500) Days of Summer.' It's not just a romantic comedy, it's about two unique human beings, and it has a heart to it. I think he's going to make a really good movie."

He's too old for a reboot. Way too old. But, if they did cast him, I think it would be a way to show people that they're taking the reboot seriously, because Levitt is actually an excellent actor, not one of the "90210 TwiSchool Musical" actors that some people seem to think that they know that Sony is going to cast.

I don't think it will happen, but I'd be excited if it did, because it might calm some of the blind haters down a bit.

Awesome find Josh.

Great find Josh. He would be much better as Bucky in The First Avenger.

He sounds kind of interested. I like him as an actor, but definitely not for high school Peter Parker. He's not really the right body type anyway.

I'd trust JGL's judgment. He seems like a really chill guy. I had a pretty good feeling it was gonna play off of BB and TDK (play off not rip off). This sounds like real good news. Nice find.

P.S. I know all the haters are gonna get is "Oh noes, it's not a big action flick! FAIL!!!"

well he's right about these sorts of movies needing some humanity in them. i bet with the right haircut he could be peter parker, just not a teenage one.

@filmfreak

yeah i don't want a high school peter parker either. would rather have a college age parker who's been doing the spidey thing for a bit

Upupandaway - 1/23/2010, 11:05 PM
@Phineas: When the vampire craze goes out, he'll be ready for the werewolf revolution.

I myself am optimistic about a high school Spidey. We already have a lot of very adult CBM franchises out there. I think it's good that there is going to be something to corner a different market. I'm not saying it should be a sell-out Twilight with webbing, but something more identifiable to others out there that don't get the moral dilemmas of TDK or the commentary of Iron Man. I'll hold my breath until I see footage though.

Not sure if he would be the best for the parker but he is a good actor.

@BIGBMH p90x for 6 months body type would be fine lol.

I know, but wich actor could be spiderman, i dont want Zac Efron to be spiderman. I once made a fan cast wich i tought that the best ultimate peter parker/spiderman could be Drake Bell. You know just giving some shape to his acting skills he would make a decent spiderman, and it would give to the cahracter that humor it has in the comics.

What I'm finding most interesting about all these articles regarding a Spidey reboot, is that actors, directors, producers, and even Stan Lee are commenting on what a great idea it is to reboot it.
It's not like the movies did badly. Even Spidey 3 made a profit of @530 million bucks. Profit! I wasn't a fan of the movie myself, but it just seems like it makes good fiscal sense to stay with the same team.
ReillyParker
ReillyParker - 1/24/2010, 12:10 AM
Hmm you know what hescian you're right. So maybe Sony actually saw Spidey 3 for a failure, not economically but just as a movie, and that's why they wanted to start from scratch to make sure it doesn't continue to possibly get worse? Nah I don't think anyone's gonna buy that.

Sorry I'm sounding pissy and I really shouldn't... :\
Scion
Scion - 1/24/2010, 12:18 AM
They wouldn't be able to choose a better actor than JGL. G.I. Joe aside, his acting is great. BRICK is by far a testament to that.

If PP's HS years are traded in for one singular year, particularly his senior then JGL would be a great choice.

His coyness in that interview speaks volumes, him and Webb most definitely had discussions about him potentially playing PP/Spiderman.
hescian
hescian - 1/24/2010, 12:20 AM
I'm thinking Sony is rebooting because Tobey, Kristin, etc. were asking for too much money, and Sony also wants to create buzz and excitement. ho-hum
ReillyParker
ReillyParker - 1/24/2010, 12:22 AM
I honestly believe if Webb has had this much discussion with him, he's probably involved in the project. You guys see him as playing anyone else, if not Parker? (seriously asking, not being sarcastic.)
Scion
Scion - 1/24/2010, 12:25 AM
@ReillyParker Funny you ask that, he's be a good Ben Reilly, but that would be way too much for a first film, hell that would be a little too much even for a 4th film.
ReillyParker
ReillyParker - 1/24/2010, 12:30 AM
@Scion: Oh god, yeah please no clones, unless they somehow know how to fix what went wrong in the comics (to which I can get into a full explanation as to how, but won't cause I'm too lazy). Besides shouldn't the clone you know... be a clone?
Scion
Scion - 1/24/2010, 12:42 AM
@ReillyParker: I know, for him to be BR, he's have to be PP. That's what I was getting at lol

wow, well I feel stupid for not getting that...
SuperSonic
SuperSonic - 1/24/2010, 1:51 AM
He doesn't look old though, he looks really young. So his age shouldn't matter. He's young for an actor. I think he would be the perfect spiderman. He's dodging the question about him being Peter Parker though lmao he wouldnt even answer....hmmm. Looks like a strong possibility. and I hope so!
VIKEME
VIKEME - 1/24/2010, 2:30 AM
He would definitely be my first choice for Spidey. Hopefully those shrugs mean something more than "I have no idea" He looks a lot younger than 28 and hopefully he'll only have to play a high school kid for two movies.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Aaron Johnson for Spider-Man and I'm a happy camper.

Best name i have heard so far. I don't care if he's too old..might wake the suits up a bit and get them to realize Spidey 90210 isn't the way to go. He would be a perfect Tobey replacement. But even if they did want to go with school daze Peter, he could probably pull it off. He's really young looking.
WeaponX
WeaponX - 1/24/2010, 7:56 AM
I'm waiting for "Kick-Ass" to roll into theaters and judging how well received Aaron Johnson is playing the lead of the movie (Dave Lizewski), Sony would go knocking on his door for the Peter Parker role.
Ryden

I'd love to see JGL take on Spider-Man. He's a fantastic actor. If they're really going for that high-school angle then he would be too old. But it's still early days, whose to say Marc Webb decides he wants an older Spidey?

If JGL was cast I certainly wouldn;t complain, and it looks that he may just get the part.
