A couple of months back, we got the news that Sony Pictures had enlisted Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Kick-Ass) to play Kraven the Hunter in the Spider-Man baddie's first big-screen outing. A (still unconfirmed) report that Chameleon would be introduced as the villain followed, but it looks like ol' Kraven is going to have his hands full with another foe - and this one is likely to get her claws into him in more ways than one.
According to The Illuminerdi, Kraven will introduce Calypso, and the studio is interested in Jodie Turner-Smith (Without Remorse, Queen and Slim) to play the character. We don't know whether an official offer has been made or not, however.
In the comics, Calypso Ezili was a ruthless voodoo priestess who is actually the one responsible for giving Kraven his enhanced abilities. The two became lovers shortly after, and Calypso often fuelled The Hunter's hatred of Spider-Man, convincing him never to lose sight of his prey. After cheqating death many times, she was seemingly killed off for good in the late '90s.
How she'll be depicted in Kraven remains to be seen, but there's always a chance the murderous villian will be tweaked a little for her live-action debut.
J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier; A Most Violent Year) will direct Kraven from a screenplay from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man; Uncharted) and Richard Wenk (The Equalizer; Jack Reacher: Never Go Back). The SPUMC movie is scheduled for release on January 13th, 2023.
