KRAVEN Movie Reportedly Eyeing WITHOUT REMORSE Star Jodie Turner-Smith To Play Calypso

Kraven the Hunter is expected to face-off against Chameleon in his first big-screen outing, but we're now hearing that Sony Pictures is interested in Jodie Turner-Smith to play another villain: Calypso.

A couple of months back, we got the news that Sony Pictures had enlisted Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Kick-Ass) to play Kraven the Hunter in the Spider-Man baddie's first big-screen outing. A (still unconfirmed) report that Chameleon would be introduced as the villain followed, but it looks like ol' Kraven is going to have his hands full with another foe - and this one is likely to get her claws into him in more ways than one.

According to The Illuminerdi, Kraven will introduce Calypso, and the studio is interested in Jodie Turner-Smith (Without Remorse, Queen and Slim) to play the character. We don't know whether an official offer has been made or not, however.

In the comics, Calypso Ezili was a ruthless voodoo priestess who is actually the one responsible for giving Kraven his enhanced abilities. The two became lovers shortly after, and Calypso often fuelled The Hunter's hatred of Spider-Man, convincing him never to lose sight of his prey. After cheqating death many times, she was seemingly killed off for good in the late '90s.

How she'll be depicted in Kraven remains to be seen, but there's always a chance the murderous villian will be tweaked a little for her live-action debut.

J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier; A Most Violent Year) will direct Kraven from a screenplay from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man; Uncharted) and Richard Wenk (The Equalizer; Jack Reacher: Never Go Back). The SPUMC movie is scheduled for release on January 13th, 2023.

I don’t want to go too hard on this girl, but she was barely more than a caardboard cutout in without remorse. She came in, delivered lines, and left. The most exciting thing about her in that was that she was Bunk’s niece

I feel like she didn’t have enough to work with in that film, but I guess she did well enough with what she was given.
She definitely has screen presence, that’s for sure.

"How she'll be depicted in Kraven remains to be seen...."

If I had to guess, I would go with "terribly". We're talking about Sony.

"There's always a chance the murderous villian will be tweaked a little for her live-action debut."

Again, this is Sony with their Spider-Man...less universe. It's probably a safe bet that the character will be more than "tweaked a little".

I hope they open that search up some more. She's really someone I don't care for as an actor.

Now, Naomi Ackie, Vicky Jeudy, or Logan Browning could be fire

@DartOfHarkness - smh I see you picked three "NBW" that can hardly act they way out of a paperbag but then again we talking about sony so it could work i guess im not expecting a masterpiece

@KINGPEN266ADOS - Sure, whatever a NWB is?

I mean, Naomi Ackie is a solo BAFTA among other award winner and Jeudy was a 3x SAG ensemble winner with OITNB where she more than pulled her weight and Browning is great in Dear White People, more so than anything JTS has ever done..

JTS on the other hand has never won anything, and is best known for putting on a horrid performance as Anne Boleyn and being Pacey's wife.

@DartOfHarkness - it’s been time for Logan to blow up. I’m not the hugest fan of the dear white people tv series as the movie is its superior but she’s stellar in it

@MyCoolYoung - indeed. And let's be honest, it's a business for mostly beautiful people. With her looks and the way she's stepped up in DWP, someone will come knocking sooner or later.

I'm just wondering how they think:
#1 Having a solo Kraven movie without Spidey is a good idea, and
#2 How they plan on getting away with doing Kraven in politically correct times?

Seems like another Sony trainwreck just waiting to happen.
