Filming continues on Sony Pictures' Madame Web movie in Boston, and following set photos featuring stars Dakota Johnson and Adam Scott, we have a first look at American Horror Story alum Emma Roberts.

Roberts' face is obscured by her hand, but these snaps do seemingly tell us something about her character, who appears to be heavily pregnant. The actress gave birth to her first child last year shortly before splitting with ex Garret Hedlund, and is not expecting again based on her recent Instagram photos.

There's already speculation that Roberts might be playing Jessica Drew, who was pregnant during her fan-favorite 2015 comic run. Others believe she may be playing the original Cassandra Web in flashbacks with Johnson's Julia Carpenter retconned as her daughter in the present day, but there are obviously numerous other possibilities.

Check out the photos below, which also give us another glimpse of Johnson in a different outfit.

If Roberts is indeed playing another established Spider-Man character, it may support the theory that this project is actually being developed as a team-up film with the titular hero sharing the spotlight with a number of other female heroes.

Whatever the case may be, there doesn't seem to be much anticipation for Madame Web among comic book fans, but the movie has assembled a very impressive cast. Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O'Connor all have supporting roles, and there's a lot of speculation that at least some them will be playing heroes/villains from the comics.

S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The movie was recently pushed back by almost three months from July 7 to October 6, 2023.
