Will The Next SPIDER-MAN Movie Feature Green Goblin? Tom Holland Says The Villain Is Difficult To Pull Off

Much to the chagrin of MCU and Tom Holland fans around the world, Sony and CEO Tom Rothman seem fully committed to moving forward with a Spidey film that's not connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man's future is both wide open and exteremely limited at the moment. If the current status quo persists and a new deal between Sony and Marvel isn't reached, then the next standalone Spider-Man film will not be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any capacity.

Citing last December's Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse as a movie that raised the bar for the entire franchise, actor Tom Holland told the crowd at Keystone Comic Con this past Sunday that the film was also a reminder that there's a lot more Spider-Man characters than what we've seen in the live-action movies that have come before.

Holland stated, "I love that movie. I think that movie was the perfect thing the family of Spider-Man needed. It’s just a reminder that there’s so many more characters out there. One day we’ll have to bring Miles to the live-action screen, and how you do it, I don’t know, but it’ll be amazing."

However, matching the spectacle of Into the Spiderverse might be hard to achieve as there's one character, in particular, that Holland believes is difficult to pull off in live-action.

"There are characters in the comics who are so hard to bring to life. Like the Green Goblin, for me, is a real difficult one to bring to a live-action screen, so seeing him in that capacity was so cool, because he stayed true to the comics, and I just, for me, really enjoy different aspects of what Spider-Man is to people and his journey. I didn’t really know much about Miles’ character, because I’m so invested in Peter Parker to play him, and it was just nice to learn about a different aspect of Spider-Man.

At least now we can get a Spider-Man movie where the villains aren't Tony Stark revenge characters.

Uh doing the real Green Goblin isn’t that hard and could be beautifully cinematic with today’s technology.

Are Sony going to continue making pointless villain solo stories?

I said it before and I'll say it again, don't change the villain just because Marvel studios isn't doing it anymore, there is only one villain that makes any sense after that cliffhanger.

@Mrcool210 - will the cliffhanger even be addressed? or would this new one be a reboot just with Tom Holland still attached?

Kraven should be the next spider-man villain.'
Not Green Goblin. Not venom. Their time to shine as a villain to Hollands spider-man hasn't come yet.
Kraven...Kraven...Kraven

Man I like Tom, but what is he talking about? First Green Goblin is pretty easy to pull of on film just think of a modern Jekyll/Hyde, hell besides the costume Defoe's GG is pretty accurate. Second I still don't understand the hard on everyone seems to have for Into the spiderverse, it's a mediocre film at best.

@CurlyBill - I think that it's legitimately good, but I do think that it's over-rated as well.

Green Goblin really isn't that hard to pull off. Yet, they've failed twice.

Toby Maguire's Goblin was good, aside from his costume and appearance. But other than that I think they did a good enough job on him.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 was just a ridiculously bad attempt.

They just need to take the characterization from Spider-Man 1, and give him a more faithful costume. I understand the idea of the Green Goblin mask is what makes that difficult. Like, its a mask, yet it moves and emotes like a real face. So I get it. But you can't tell me the right people couldn't figure it out. They found a way to make Deadpool and Spider-Man's eyes in their mask get big and small and not look ridiculous, after all.

I did not care for the Green Goblin just being a huge, dumb, monster flunky of the Kingpin, myself.

The star of Into the Spider Verse was Spider Ham. My kids will watch that whole movie just to see the 10 minutes or so with Spider Ham. Bring him into the live action fold.

SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 8/26/2019, 2:51 PM
@tugboy - Sony would never ever bring out a live action Spider-Ham. Luckily there is one studio who wasn't afraid to bring in an Alchoholic talking Duck to the final battle against Thanos. You know the same studio who had Tony Stark interact with a talking Raccoon and had Steve Rogers have a brief conversation with Groot. Oh but Sony wants nothing to do with that studio.

im not sure what Feige and the teams plan for Avengers Tower was before, but i think its safe to assume as of now its probably going to be the Baxter Building.

Im also pretty sure that the next chapter for Spider-man will more than likely involve Venom, Kraven, Felicia Hardy(Black Cat) and a few others in some capacity. Im curious to see if they still continue to take Venom down the Anti-hero path now that Sony has ruined everything and will have their way with Spider-Man.
