Shailene Woodley Says "Heck Yeah" To Playing 'Mary-Jane Watson' In SPIDER-MAN Reboot

Shailene Woodley Says "Heck Yeah" To Playing 'Mary-Jane Watson' In SPIDER-MAN Reboot

Divergent star Shailene Woodley is apparently interested in returning to the role of Mary-Jane Watson in Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man reboot, following her unseen performance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Hit the jump to check it out!

Shailene Woodley was cast as Mary Jane Watson in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but her minor role in the critical flop was cut in order to focus on Peter Parker & Gwen Stacy's relationship. However, now that yet another Spider-Man reboot is currently in development at Sony with the help of Marvel Studios, would the Divergent star be interested in playing Spidey's main squeeze in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? When Clevver Movies sat down with Woodley to discuss her upcoming film, Insurgent, the actress said, "Heck yeah" to playing MJ in (another) reboot of the iconic character.

Though it is unlikely for Shailene Woodley to be recast in the role, especially given Marvel and Sony are reportedly looking to cast actual teenagers to portray... teenagers, it is still nice to see that she's interested despite luckily being cut out of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. You may recall last year when the actress expressed interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Cinematic, so perhaps she could tackle another role.

How would you guys feel if Shailene Woodley was cast as MJ in Marvel's upcoming reboot? As for the Spider-Man reboot, it is set to hit theatres everywhere in 2017, and according to reports, will be directed by Cabin In The Woods' Drew Goddard.

It's nice to see Ror didn't completely crush her spirit.

Just kidding, Ror.

She would've made a fantastic MJ, she's so talented.
But after seeing her kick ass in Divergent, she'd be wasted in the Damsel role.
This girl NEEDS a role with a lot of action

I was gonna say heck no but then I saw the picture you posted in the article. I must say she looks pretty damn good in that pic. If she looks like that in the movie then make it happen marvel/sony

With Spidey at Marvel, you won't see 616 MJ. Why? Because of Bendis. He wrote the after credit scene in Iron Man & the Daredevil show looks Bendis influenced along with Frank.

Expect Ultimate MJ which Shailene fits. Even if Shailene doesn't get picked, MJ will be Ultimate influenced.

It'd be so awesome to see if she does get the role. Just think about it, she almost got the role of MJ in a cancelled Spider-Man trilogy and would have never had any chances of playing the character again. It's like the entire Henry Cavill thing with Superman Returns and Man of Steel.

But yeah, I'm open to her nabbing the role (yet again). The only thing that worries me about her getting thise role is that she'd have to wait for our MCU Peter to graduate out of HS and enroll in ESU, where we'll see Harry, Gwen, and MJ. So hopefully we won't have to wait THAT long for "college" Peter to hit it up at ESU.

But if not Woodley, I'm definitely hoping for Emilia Clarke for MJ. You look her up in Google with red hair and you could swear that that's MJ. Fingers crossed for Dylan O'Brian.

Nobody wants her for it anymore. She already skipped out to do her ridiculous YA Novel Adaptations, so I say give it to someone else.

But, if Marvel is actually looking for 15-year old actors for the role of Peter, then she can't be cast, lol; she's 23.
ZakMarvel
ZakMarvel - 3/9/2015, 6:49 PM
Bella Thorne? I.....guess so. I mean, she's a looker, for sure. There's no doubt about that. But I haven't seen her act in anything except seeing a few promos years and years back for Shake It Up (and that show really puts a cringe to my brain). But I'm open to that option.

"But after seeing her kick ass in Divergent, she'd be wasted in the Damsel role."

If they go with how most of the love interests in the MCU are done, she probably won't be all that damselly. Even Pepper, in the first movie, was damselish, but still active in the plot and saving day. She even defeated the villain.

ZakMarvel
ZakMarvel - 3/9/2015, 6:53 PM
I'm kinda skeptical that Marvel is looking for a 15 year old actor for Peter. I figured they'd skip over his origins a few years in advance (Peter was 15 years old when he got hit by the spider) and make him a starting Senior in HS and after three movies they have him graduate HS. O'Brian can fill in the role in that time of Peter's life and grow into the role through that route.
