Spider-fans! The long, and worthwhile might I add, anticipation for the next Spider-Man videogame is sure to pay off in just a little over 2 months, as Marvels Spider-Man 2 releases in exactly 80 days from today on the PlayStation 5.
With our first brief glimpse into Spider-Man 2 having been initially way back in September of 2021, it is surreal to know that it was only a couple of weeks ago when fans first received an actual look into the game, confirming many cool additions to the Spider-Man PS4, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales sequel.
For those who are unsure they know everything there is to know before immersing themselves once more into the fantastical world of Spider-Man, here is everything we know so far about Spider-Man 2 PS5!
1. Release Date - October 20th, 2023
It goes without saying that Spider-Man 2 releasing in exactly 80 days from today is on the 20th of October, but you can now pre-order the game on your PlayStation 5 device!
Any unlockable features, or cool bundles that may not normally be made available to players until a certain section of the game, or has to be paid for anyway, can now be pre-ordered so you can be the first of many Spider-Man 2 players to enjoy what it has to offer!
2. Not One, Not Two... But 3 Villians!
When Spider-Man PS4 assembled the Wall-Crawler's infamous Sinister Six group for the first amid the Ryker's prison break section in the storyline, fans were in awe of all the villains they were able to form together to make it possible: Doctor Octopus, The Vulture, Rhino, Electro, Scorpion, and Mister Negative.
Spider-Man 2 is sure to give both Peter and Miles a run for the money, as they will both be joining forces to take down The Lizard, who we briefly caught a glimpse of in the trailer, Kraven The Hunter, who plans to capture Spider-Man in his quest to prove he is the best hunter, and of course... Venom!
While this may not be the next Sinister Six for Peter, they will be pitted up against some very formidable foes; some of those will be personal, for Harry Osborn has been infected by the Venom symbiote in his father Norman Osborn's efforts to save him.
3. When and Where?
Spider-Man 2 has been confirmed by Creative Director Brian Intihar, to take place "about 10 months after the events of Miles Morales," additionally noting that both Peter and Miles "are a great team," at this point in the Spider-Man videogame timeline.
This could also serve for the reason why Spider-Man 2 PS5 could be a co-op game, as players could potentially be able to change between both Peter and Miles. When this feature will be accessible, or if it will be in the game at all is beyond me, but it will be enjoyable to switch character's at will.
Inithar also mentioned that the map of Spider-Man 2 now has included both Queens and Brooklyn, increasing the map's size by roughly two times of how it was in previous installments.
"We’ve added Queens and Brooklyn this time, so roughly speaking the map size is about two times larger than the previous titles. Since these two areas are somewhat smaller and residential, I think you’ll find them different from Manhattan. We’ve prepared some unexpected situations we haven’t done before, like a battle on the river between two of the cities, so I hope you’ll look forward to them.” - Brian Intihar, Bam Smack Pow
4. Anger and Vengeance
No doubt, one of the scariest qualities of Spider-Man is when he cuts it with the joking, and gets serious. We know at some point Peter will be infected with the Venom symbiote, fueling him with hate-filled rage, and giving us the iconic Secret Wars Symbiote suit from the titular comicbook run.
Miles, however, will be facing his own anger, unprompted by being infected by the Venom symbiote. In the trailer, we were surprised to see the return of Martin Li, also known as Mister Negative.
Li was the man responsible for killing Miles' father in Spider-Man PS4, and based on what Miles tells Li in the trailer, "Li, you don't know what you took from me," with a tone so enriched with anger and revenge, Miles may be going on a journey of uncontrollable anger and rage as well.
5. Returning character's?
From what the trailers have indicated, all returning character's we know of so far are MJ, Ganke, Norman Osborn, Li, and Doctor Connors. Character's we can assume, and will most likely be making a return in Spider-Man 2. are J Jonah Jameson and Rio Morales.
Because Kraven is on the hunt for powerful creatures and foes in New York, his sights won't only be set on apprehending Spider-Man. Kraven may also be on the hunt for foes such as Taskmaster, and if the rumors are true and can indicate her return, Yuri Watanabe as Wraith.
For those who have not played the full ,The City That Never Sleeps DLC in Spider-Man PS4, Yuri gets pushed over the edge after killing Hammerhead, along her team getting ambushed and killed, and, much like her comicbook counterpart, this leads her to becoming the villain known as Wraith.
