Stan Lee Reveals What He Thinks About A British Actor Playing Spider-Man!

British actor Andew Garfield will be playing Peter Parker in 2012's, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Stan Lee has finally revealed exactly what his opinion on that is...

Talking to Digital Spy at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards this past weekend, the legendary comic book creator told the site that he's confident that the star of The Social Network and Never Let Me Go will be "absolutely great" as the Amazing Spider-Man.

"It's great that we have a London actor. I think the more actors that we use from away in other countries is brilliant, because we are one world and we've got to stick up for that."

He also joked that his cameo in Thor will be one of his best, and most impressive yet.

"I've done that [cameo] already and like all the others it is magnificent. It's the high spot of the movie. I'm a little sorry about these cameos because people are so affected by them and influenced by them they don't notice what else is going on in the movie. I'm so sorry for Anthony Hopkins and the rest because I steal the thunder. That's the price they pay."

With an all star cast that includes Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May, The Amazing Spider-Man is set to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012!

First of all Stan if you were standing in front of me I would kneel at your feet But you mean to tell me we can't find an American actor to play this American role???

from NFL game day on ESPN .." come on man!!!"

@jonedc
Well you entirely missed the point.
There's no need to exclusively look through Americans until you find someone.
Actors from other countries aren't less qualified, and the guy comes across 100% American onscreen, that's all that matters.

@ jonedc-we had an american in the role. apparently the only person who could do it right is a Brit. just think;the only guy who could play House is British. Christian Bale is British. I'm gonna reserve judgment until the movie comes out

Actors act, they become someone else for the roll. It's what they do. If they're good in the part then who cares.

Stan Lee=Winning, he is so amazing and funny can't wait for his cameo!

jonedc@ i gotta agree with Zero Ethic, you have missed the point, as long as they do the character justice it shouldn't matter where they were born or grew up. Plus Garfield was born in the US and grew up in London. And further-more....let’s be honest, foreign actors are better than the Americans right now. They seem to care about depth to characters. They seem more dedicate d to their craft and are just flat out better actors. It sucks to say but it is the truth.

Will someone please explain to me why we care where the actor comes from? I mean isn't the performance what should be the ONLY thing thing that matters?

AMERICAN ACTORS KEEP TURNING UP IN 'BRITISH' ROLES ALL THE TIME, HAVE DONE FOR YEARS!!!
Although I think you call it 'liberating' roles, not taking.

I have nothing against using actor from various countries as long as their primary skill is acting. Musicians should not act. But who would have expect any other response from the Stan the Corp. Man, anyway.

....I know/hope it's the selective editing of the interview/comments, but does Stan-the-Man think London is a country...?!?!

Is there ANY surprise to his response, people? They could have cast Jim Carrey and Lee would have said he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, just so long as he got his obligatory cameo and the residual checks cleared...

what the , this guy was born in the U.S. Why do these people keek saying hes a brit ?

jonedc - 4/4/2011, 10:20 AM
to all my brit brothers out there first of all I'm not saying anything bad about you guys. As a matter of fact I love you guys for having the balls to back us up in any world conflict and if I had the money i would own a condo in south kennsington London.
I'm just saying to me it makes logical sense to cast an American for an American role. for Christ sakes peter Parker lives in queens not many brits live in queens. Maybe if peter lived in Manhattan I could see it Lotta brits live in Manhattan. Lets keep it real you are not going to cast Robert Deniro as good as he is to be king Henry the VIII! And believe you me he would find a way to learn how to speak with a British Accent. What is US's Number one export?...Entertainment!

Just to clarify, he's half American half British, he's not 1 more than the other.

@Jonedc - Have to say being a Brit, I'm proud of our relationship even if the rest of the world dislikes us lol jk. I see your point but it's not like he's gonna play Parker as a Brit. I wouldn't mind say Jeremy Renner playing Bond if he's got the accent down. Infact I would love that. From what i've heard of Andrew's American accent, it sounds pretty genuine.

@fullmetal Lol...yeah, ol' Stan seems to go whichever way the wind blows these days. It's funny how everyone loves him now. I've read some stuff where they talk about how much people at Marvel hate him and what a dick he was to work for. Also, I read that alot of the characters he takes credit for creating were actually created by someone else. Since he was editor in chief it gave him the feeling that he created them when it was actually someone else's idea. 'Nuff said. lol
