The executive producer of the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game just released a blog entry discussing a few new additions/improvements to Spider-Man's virtual world. He begins by discussing their initial goals for the game. They hoped to "invigorate the experience with great variety in play, more focused storytelling, and more natural pacing; deliver a world worth protecting; and finally, give you all the tools you need to make it fun to do so."

New additions to the game include a new Hero or Menace system, which will reward players who save citizens and keep crime rates down through side activities — with some potentially meaningful consequences for those who disregard Spider-Man’s responsibilities. They've also added new crimes for Spider-Man to handle, like arson and hostage rescue crises, while further developing the existing challenges from the first game.

They've also made improvements to New York City, focusing on making it more diverse and a more fun environment to spend time in. They've made significant changes to Manhattan, getting it closer to the look and feel of the real thing, complete with more varied buildings and architecture, distinct districts, more realistic street sizes, and more reasons to explore. They wanted the changes to be more than simply aesthetic. More missions and side activities take place within the city, and many progress dynamically.

They've brought back the Web Rush, which was introduced in the previous game, and have added new abilities like dodges, rolls, and critical strikes. There will also be new upgrades and special powers. Web swinging has been changed a bit and now Spidey won't be able to just shoot webs into the sky, he'll need an actual building or object in the city to swing from.

Combat encounters have also improved, specifically Spidey's stealth capabilities. He'll have an increased number of opportunities to perform stealth moves as well as an increased prowess when striking from the shadows. If stealth isn't your thing, new enemies will also add greater depth and challenge to combat brawls. Players will be incentivized to use their whole arsenal. The pace of upgrades has also been changed. so that they’re something the player acquires appreciably throughout the adventure.

That improved sense of pacing also applies to the story, which Beenox has been crafting closely with Marvel with great attention to character. Taking place alongside the events of the movie this time (rather than after-the-fact), it takes on a more personal tone for both Spider-Man, on the hunt for Uncle Ben’s killer, and Peter Parker himself, who will have his own role to play in the narrative outside of the costume.

The game’s impressive cast of villains will also get their due, playing a more central role throughout the plot while providing some memorable boss showdowns.

The Amazing Spider-Man is back! This spring, take control of Peter Parker in an all-new adventure: use your strength, speed, and cunning to take on new foes and even greater challenges. The stakes are higher than ever… Are you ready to return to Manhattan?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game is expected to release in Spring 2014. It will be available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Microsoft Windows.

Am I the only one that thinks those graphics look absolutely horrible? Eugh.

Why would they put movie stills in an article about the videogame? I'm just kidding. I'll be the first one on the line when they start selling tickets. I'm not going to say that this is the movie I'm anticipating the most because I'm equally excited for every comic book movie this year except for Guardians of the Galaxy which will probably one of my favorite movies of all time. I can't believe how good this year looks to be. 2013 was good but this is going to be awesome.

@LMB10

Graphics are not that great but hopefully the gameplay is solid.

All I want to hear is that they have never ending random missions after the main game. That's literally all I wanted from the last one.

This would have been a cool storyline for a movie.

Not liking the look of the graphics though.

This gonna be my first PS4 game, I can't wait. I don't care if movie tie-in games usually are'nt as good as AAA games, but I hope that Beenox is doing good use of the PS4 engine for this.

...What the part of me knowing this isn't an AAA game you don't understand? I feel like Spider-Man fans are spoiled with the best movie tie-in games around, and while I hope that someday a big studio will do an AAA Spider-Man game, this TASM games please me.

People are rightfully thinking that Cletus Kasady could be Uncle Ben's killer in the movie tie-in universe simply because the trailer implied that, dummy.

I just hope they have more(and better) villains this time. For now, this will be a redbox rental.

TASM has the best graphics for a Spidey-game.

TASM graphics were incredible, and that's because it wasn't on such a large scale. TASM2 on the other hand is on a much, much larger stage. The city is bigger, it is more detailed, there are actually side missions like SM2, and you can change between Peter and spiderman. That's why the graphics look like shite, it seems games that are larger and open world seem to have okay graphics, except GTAV.

@manhunter212 I swear I feel the same way ...... If you run out of crime to fight after you beat the game you're going to eventually get bored of swinging around the city..... If this game has unlimited crimes then it most likely won't get boring

The detail for this game looks pathetic, I mean just ban movie/ video game tie ins all together

After games like Skyrim, there's a certain expectation of how modern games should look.

And expectations are much, much higher.

I agree the graphics on the game aren't that great, but beenox listens to fans complaints ( i.e webs now attach to buildings) so why wouldn't they fix the graphics before the game releases? Game developers do that all the time.

Hopefully the web swinging won't be automatic like in the first game,I want to be able to let go of the web when I want to and not when the game wants to,that kinda killed it for me,I spent most of the game web rushing cause at least that made me feel like I was in command.
I'm excited for this game,Beenox has yet to let me down, they really love Spider-Man and it shows.

@Anno actually it is, there are a lot more things to do. More missions, the city is bigger and filled with plenty to do

I hope this game isn't as stale as the first Amazing Spider-Man game. Didn't even pass it, I was that bored with it I feel Beenox/Activision should just give the properties to another game developer.

Oh and this is just test footage images, so the graphics won't look as epic as say the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition does. I say when it's closer to the release the game then we'll see awesome graphics.

1:07 It seems the WEBS go darker according how further you become a Menace.
Or perhaps it's just illumination, but the contrast is really evident.
Or it could also be a hint to our favorite Symbiote.

"Web swinging has been changed a bit and now Spidey won't be able to just shoot webs into the sky, he'll need an actual building or object in the city to swing from."

Okay, and? Spider-man 2 and Ultimate Spider-man had that feature. Ten years ago.

As dethpillow said, if this is what they are using to get people excited about the 'improved' web swinging in the game, then I'll just go ahead and assume that the actual swinging itself is still automated.

Hell Yeah! This is sounding more and more like the Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in game.
