Jared Leto Gave Skrillex A Special Gift On The Set Of SUICIDE SQUAD'S "Purple Lamborghini"

We all know about Joker star Jared Leto's notorious "gifts" he gave to his castmates on the set of Suicide Squad, and it turns out Skrillex wasn't exempt when he shot a music video with the actor...

Fans probably heard more about Jared Leto's antics as The Joker on the set of Suicide Squad than they saw of the actor in the final film. Stories of Leto's method acting approach were plentiful, the biggest one being the "gifts" that he gave to his co-stars, reported to be anything from bullets to condoms to dead animals. As it turns out, Skrillex was also the recipient of such a gift when he filmed the video for "Purple Lamborghini" (from the film's soundtrack) with Leto and Rick Ross.

In an interview with Complex, Skrillex said that Leto gave him the “biggest dildo” he had ever seen and a “bunch of weird s**t in a box.” A nonplussed Skrillex thanked the actor for the gift, nonetheless.

According to Skrillex, the music video was originally supposed to feature just him, intercut with footage from the film, but he wanted something different, and personally called Leto to ask him to appear as The Joker. “[They] wanted to do a music video using me and footage [of Suicide Squad]. I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to do one of those.’ So I called Jared personally, and I really had to persuade him [to join].”

While Leto and Skrillex are friends, getting back into character as The Joker wasn't easy for Leto, and Skrillex was quite thankful he was able to participate in the shoot. “He’s a really good friend of mine, but for him, giving me that Joker character is not an easy thing. He really went out of his way to be a part of that video. And getting Rick Ross in it—the timing was so last minute. Everything came together at the last minute. The director, the treatment, everything.”

@Doomsday8888 - Considering how much of Leto's scenes were cut and how badly written his character was... I'm wondering if these 'gifts' are him taking out his anger on everyone involved and they are just spinning it in order to prevent more conflicts. I mean it seems clear we'll never see Leto again in the DCEU, he clearly had his hopes built and trashed like the rest of us.

@Rocket38 - Plot Twist; Leto actually hates everyone involved in the DCEU due to his scenes being cut and his acting wasted. He's sending the cast and crew 'gifts' as a way to get back at them for how much time he wasted, by giving them disgusting things under the excuse of saying he's 'method acting'

@Scarilian - That....doesn't make much sense. He gave them gifts while they were filming, not after. He couldn't possibly have known his scenes would be cut until after the film was done...

Considering he's spoken before that he was advertised it one way, but it was another way - i think he probably figured things out when they started filming. Originally he was under the impression it was a Joker movie, which was likely the original intention (Joker as the villain, Harley as a potential hero)

In addition people are giving scripts and filming schedules. He'd likely have realised how little a role he has when he had no scenes with the rest of the team. The best he has is one scene in a tunnel with a grenade. He'd be able to tell fairly early into filming his scenes how much those scenes would take up, what position they would fit into the film, the quality of writing, the focus of the scene, etc...

@Scarilian - I realize all that.

However, those comments were made in post-release interviews.

He also went on record saying that you could have made a whole other film with the joker scenes he filmed that got cut. It wasn't just in ads that we saw deleted scenes...there was plenty of behind-the-scenes footage that featured scenes not in the film. Joker opening a briefcase, Joker on a bed, etc etc.

Along with the reports that the cast members got the gifts during the filming, it just doesnt add up. I think Leto is certainly disappointed...he's expressed that fairly openly. But i dont think the gifts are due to anger. It was just his method.

@MattBellissimo -

From filming... we know a majority of the Joker's scenes... and several of them are just extended versions of the scenes we see in the film.

You can make a 'whole other film' out of very little... and his scenes are made in a way so that you don't need the in-between to understand. Here is every scene either in the film or that we know of, here is the 'other film' that could exist.

Past;
Film - Joker tricks Harleen into helping
Not shown - Harleen helps only for Joker to threaten to leave her, she snaps and shoots someone to prove she is worth keeping, however then threatens Joker who knocks her out (Slap scene)
Film - Joker's goons strap her to a table and he tortures her
Film - With torture failing, he decides to trick her into killing herself, however he realises she could be useful and decides to save her

Present;
Film - Joker kills someone and they escape in a car leading to it crashing with Joker escaping and Harley being captured
Not shown - Joker waiting in a safehouse for Harley after the car crashes into the lake
Film - Joker gets depressed as he's unable to find Harley
Film - After finding where she is, Joker proceeds to gain access to the bomb implant factory, find a jamming signal and intimidate a guard into delivering a phone to Harley
Film - Joker saves Harley from rooftop
Film - Helicopter crashes
Not Shown - A burnt Joker confronts the Squad threatening them with a grenade in exchange for Harley Quinn
Not Shown - Harley decides to leave with Joker OR Harley decides to stay with group while Joker escapes
Film - Joker saves Harley from prison .This is an alternative ending as this was done when the 'burned Joker grenade' scene was removed as Joker clearly doesn't have burns.

That music video also sucked and having hipster, street Joker in it almost made it worse

When exactly do we get the Extended Cut of the 'Purple Lamborghini' video though? Also is that huge dildo going to be in it?
