We have some news that's sure to make DC Comics and anime fans very happy indeed!

Though we had no idea this was even in development, Warner Bros. Japan and WIT Studios (via AnimeMojo.com) have announced that a new Suicide Squad ISEKAI (a subgenre in which a character is suddenly transported from their world into a new or unfamiliar one) anime series in the works, and we already have a first teaser trailer.

The promo spotlights Harley Quinn and The Joker, as well as some strange looking pig-like creatures (we assume the Clown Prince of Crime and Harls are the ones that wind up in a bizarre new reality).

The fact that no other members of Task Force X appear has led to speculation that this will basically be a Joker/Harley story, but we'll need to see a little more before settling on that conclusion.

The official synopsis (allowing for translation) reads:

"Deadly crazy party of the baddest villains land themselves in ISEKAI! The most dangerous & bizarre fantasy adventure unveiled! DC's Harley Quinn and The Joker have been ISEKAI!? Suicide Squad rampages onto the stage of ISEKAI! A new original animation from Japan! The most maddening worlds collide in an epic and violent fantasy with the strongest line-up of creators!"

Eri Osada directs from a screenplay by TAPPEI NAGATSUKI and EIJI UMEHARA. No premiere/release date has been announced, but we'll be sure to keep you updated.

@Slotherin - I reckon that today's anime market and popularity can motivate better quality. Companies like Marvel just have to scout for the best studios and best directors out there and let them do their thing.

If it's smart it'll have it be that they are still in the real world and it's simply Harley Quinn's insanity causing her to view it as a fantasy world.

Taking them away from their core setting loses a lot of the appeal.

OMFG enough with Harley in everything! I love the character but I am so tired of seeing her in every DC story now. She's not a good addition to Suicide Squad, bring on the cooler characters with powers.

@gtabreaker - A subgenre of fantasy (or sci-fi, but it's mostly associated with fantasy nowadays) where character is transported to another world. Think of "Alice in Wonderland"
