Well, this is a surprise! Idris Elba's time in the MCU may have come to an end in Avengers: Infinity War, but the Heimdall actor is now in talks to jump ship to Warner Bros.' DC Universe as Deadshot...
In news which is sure to come as a surprise to everyone, Idris Elba looks set to jump from The Marvel Cinematic Universe to DC.
According to THR, Elba (Thor: Ragnarok, Luther) is in talks to replace Will Smith as Deadshot in the upcoming sequel to David Ayer's Suicide Squad. The wheels were reportedly set in motion when the highly in -demand actor met with director James Gunn last week, and things went "swimmingly." Apparently, he was Gunn's first and only choice.
Up until recently, Smith was expected to reprise the lead role of Floyd Lawton, but after word broke that he'd parted ways with the project we began to get a better idea of what WB and Gunn are planning for this semi-reboot.
As far as we know, the only original cast member set to return is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn - although Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flagg is also a possibility.
The studio is said to be "extremely high" on Gunn's script and wants to get things moving ASAP, so expect more casting news very soon. The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
