Warner Bros. has released an extended synopsis for The Suicide Squad, and while it doesn't really reveal any major plot points, it does give us a much better idea of what to expect from the overall setup of James Gunn's R-rated DC Comics adventure.

Thanks to the likes of set photos, behind-the-scenes footage, cast interviews and official stills, fans have been able to piece quite a bit of this together already, but the synopsis does confirm a few details that had only been speculated upon up until now, including the island location the members of Task Force X will be "dropped" on.

In the comics, Superman is sent to Corto Maltese to quell a rebel uprising, so this is bound to lead to speculation that we may get an appearance from The Man of Steel. This seems highly unlikely, but who knows what Gunn has up his sleeve!

The breakdown doesn't mention exactly why they've been sent on this "search-and-destroy" mission or who they're expected to take out, but last year's BTS featurette did strongly hint that Starro might be one of the big bads, so some kind of extra-terrestrial threat is a definite possibility.

Check out the new synopsis below and let us know what you think.

"Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Bell Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out — even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today's do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone's favorite pyscho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese."

"Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave...and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them."

The Suicide Squad is set to premiere on HBO Max and in theaters on August 6.
