THE SUICIDE SQUAD: Idris Elba's Bloodsport Is Behind Bars For Attempting To Gun Down Superman

The Suicide Squad director shared a surprising piece of intel about one member of Task Force X during Saturday's DC FanDome panel, revealing the reason Idris Elba's Bloodsport is initially behind bars!

The curtain was finally pulled back on The Suicide Squad this past Saturday, with each member of Task Force X revealed alongside an impressive behind the scenes featurette. One of the biggest surprises, of course, was the fact that Idris Elba is actually playing Bloodsport in the DC Comics movie.

That's not a name we've seen suggested by fans online since he was first cast, so it was a pleasant surprise. In the comic books, he's primarily a Superman villain, and it seems as if this big screen version of the character will have crossed paths with the Man of Steel at some point.

During the DC FanDome panel for The Suicide Squad on Saturday, there was a trivia game involving the cast of James Gunn's film, and Storm Reid - who plays Bloodsport's daughter Tyla - asked, "Who shot Superman?" Gunn then butted in to say it should be rephrased to, "Which of your characters is in prison for shooting Superman?"

The filmmaker is clearly alluding to Bloodsport being imprisoned for battling Superman and taking a shot at the Man of Steel, which was a pretty brave thing to do, but definitely not a great idea.

As Superman has such an uncertain place in the DC Extended Universe/DC Multiverse, it's unclear how the character will be referenced and whether we will see his clash with Bloodsport via a flashback.

For some reason I'm kinda expecting Cavill to show up for a cameo. Gunn already seems to be going all out with this movie, so adding Superman wouldn't even surprise me at all

@MalesMarcel - would be cool, but id say wait off on superman until they know what they are doing, at this point better to recast than wait for a guy who doesnt even have a contract with them, if they still want him, might be a while

WB/DC is spiraling down to Joel Schumacher levels of bad... Wonder Woman looks ridiculous as hell, Justice League looks like a Watchman remake, and Suicide Squad looks like a spoof of the entire genre. I don't think 2020/2021 will be good years for CBMs.

They wanted to leave the door open for a Will Smith return. Elba is probably a better actor in IMHO and I am really drawing on others' opinions, but Smith is a better BO draw. Saw Ali a few months ago and Smith was excellent and not just playing himself, using his considerable charm as he often does.

I always thought Bloodsport II's costume was pretty cool, similar to Deadshot and the Youngblood's Diehard. Apart from him being a total racist psychopath that is

They'll reference Superman. But they'll never make a great Superman movie. DC is 90% Batman or Batman related at this point. As a Superman fan, small references like this is more salt in the wound rather than being anything worth getting excited about.

Thing I learned just now: Peacemaker was the basis for Watchmen's Comedian, when they originally planned to use Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, The Question, etc.
