James Gunn's The Suicide Squad was met with divide when it was initally announced, but since then many have warmed up to the Guardians of the Galaxy director's new take on the team. With several old cast members returning for the sequel, it has got fans thinking - maybe this isn't a hard reboot after all.
Following this morning's announement that Viola Davis is reprising her role as Amanda Waller in Gunn's film, Discussing Film is now reporting that Joel Kinnaman will be back as Rick Flag as well. The actor, who has appeared in Altered Carbon and Hanna since 2016's Suicide Squad hit theaters, is one of the several characters returning as part of the new ensemble.
All the casting reveals currently confirmed are straight from David Ayer's predecessor, with the notable exception of Idris Elba's Deadshot. In addition, Collider has already unveiled the sequel's new roster, of which includes King Shark and Polka Dot Man. It will no doubt be interesting to see how the film pans out before production starts this year.
