THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Teases More Spinoffs After PEACEMAKER

Peacemaker is set to premiere on HBO Max early next year, and director James Gunn has now strongly hinted that more spinoffs featuring characters from The Suicide Squad might be in the works.

The Suicide Squad introduced the world to a (mostly) new take on DC Comics' mercenary group Task Force X, and John Cena's Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, emerged as one of the highlights for many fans.

The character was gunned down by Bloodsport (Idris Elba) towards the end of the movie, but the post-credits scene revealed that he actually survived, and Cena will suit-up as the unhinged vigilante for his own HBO Max series early next year (check out the new trailer here).

James Gunn's movie was well received by critics, but didn't fare quite so well at the box office, leaving the prospect of a sequel up in the air. However, if Peacemaker proves to be a hit there's every chance we'll see some of Smith's teammates down the line, and it sounds like more spinoff shows may already be in the works.

Gunn responded with the following Tweet when asked about the possibility of other spinoffs following Peacemaker.

It's not exactly confirmation and there's always a chance he's just having a bit of fun, but there have been rumors that some kind of project featuring Bloodsport is in early development, which could be what Gunn is hinting at here.

Ultimately, it'll probably all depend on how Peacemaker performs on the streaming service, but it's hard to imagine Warner Bros. sitting on great characters like King Shark (Sylvester Stallone) and Ratcatcher (Daniela Melchior) for too long. Oh, and Gunn also confirmed that TDK (Nathan Fillion) is indeed still alive!
