I just hope Snyder sticks with a more real look than most of his movies, which love, but aren't exactly realistic.

Yeah the red underwear is funny. they should probably go with a darker blue and a dark red too. something like this "flyby" sketch http://splashpage.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/superman.jpg

this get up is pretty cool too.

Sounds like he'll have little to no involvement in the movie...I would be worried about that if not for having a great director like Zack Snyder in charge of this thing! His focus should probably be on Batman anyway. :)

Why does everyone have a problem with the red trunks? Without them the costume is way too blue and you'd be messing with the classic look of Superman.

Flyby and other superman pics looks dumb and nothing like Superman. Thank God those movies weren't made.

@joe.yeah. you're right. it looks nothing like superman. He has a gigantic [frick]ing S on his chest in both, but its the [frick]ing red underwear that makes superman, superman.

and thank god thoes movies weren't made? because it would have been the end of the world as we know it? its a [frick]ing movie for god sake.

I'm saying the suit as a whole blue with red S red trunks and red boots make Superman who he is. If they screw with it then you lose the traditional look of the character. It is a movie but if it was made I wouldn't like it. That's all.
Trapdinsteel
Trapdinsteel - 1/31/2011, 1:55 PM
I can not stand all of the images I see where people try to "modernize" the suit by simply removing the trunks...IT LOOKS WORSE. People call the trunks gay, I think without them he looks like a Super ballerina, no thanks.

I never understood why they do not give Superman a similar aging timeline akin to Hellboy, except where he grows up through the 40s and 50's and that establishes his strong moral fiber being around the Kents for so long. That would explain why they are old when he becomes Superman as well as why he has an afinity for the costume the way it is because 1) His mother made it for him 2) It is what he saw growing up and looked up to as the costume of the "strong-man" of that era.

Do me a favor and take a look at the 300 costumes...Notice something similar?!? Snyder pretty much took out the blue and the S & added a helmet and no-one called these guys suits gay.

NO MORE RED UNDERWEAR!!

Yes I totally agree on that:)

They should redesign Superman's suit but have him still look like Superman.

Notable example would be Captain America The First Avenger suit, that suit is redesigned but it still looks like Captain America's suit.

Contrarian - 1/31/2011, 2:32 PM
Sorry Trapid but I'd just like to point out that 300 was accused of being homoerotic by a lot of critics. While I enjoy it I did find myself wondering why every-single-one of the 300 soldiers had to have shaven, oiled-up, perfectly shaped bare torcos. Wuouldn't some light armor have made more sence?
Trapdinsteel
Trapdinsteel - 1/31/2011, 2:33 PM
@Havok - I don't think the Captain America: The First Avenger suit is a good example for your argument 1) They did not remove any of the basic elements, however they added with the straps and symbols 2)It will go through a modern change again for the Avengers movie so this suit is a transition piece of his current time. 3) Cap fans flipped out before they saw the wings painted on the sides.

A solid re-design is one thing, however you can't simply just take off Superman's trunks and say that looks good because it looks ridiculous. Cap doesn't have underwear on the outside but he has a whole midsection of contrasting colors as well as a belt to break up the blue suit besides the star on his chest. Superman needs that too, hence the trunks. Everything I have seen thus far without them looks like pajamas or like he is in the nutcracker.
Trapdinsteel
Trapdinsteel - 1/31/2011, 2:39 PM
@Contrarian - Lol, I do remember hearing such criticisms up front before the movie was released and all of the images were posted, the critics definitely had a field day with that aspect of it.

However, while watching the movie, for me anyway, I pretty much forgot about that because the story was good and the action made them all look like bad a$$es. That was more of my point and I should have clarified that. If Snyder pulls off a great story and action sequences no one is going to be annoyed with the trunks.

the makings to be a good one. Leaving Superman Returns
to be forgotten forever.

@all of you who want to mess with the suit: Leave it alone. Go as classic as possible. Look at Alex Ross' designs. Big S shield, bright colors. That's Superman.

i wish they kept williams' theme song.
TucsonRican
TucsonRican - 1/31/2011, 6:23 PM
What the world needs is the film to be done by somebody that "gets" the modern Superman. If you were to pick up a Superman comic today, its vastly different than he's ever been. They actually give the chance to emote! And question his existence and purpose on Earth! Like we all do! Amazing!

But they also get the fact that Superman is an inspiring figure, and that one that people look to for guidance and inspiration.

@rbfn04
If they can give 1/10 of the admiration that Ross does in his work for Superman, we might get a decent interpetation....I mean, look at this:

@Tucson I [frick]ing love that pic, man!

Also, i hope they get him in the sense that that 'Kill Bill' speech is BS.

he is Clark Kent, he considers himself to be human. SUperman is the mask. Is who he HAS to be, not who he IS.
