Hans Zimmer confirms that the tune heard in the new Man Of Steel trailer is indeed the tune from the film, via a forum post at VI Control. He also provides information about the instrumentation he used.

One of the hallmarks of the new MAN OF STEEL Trailer was the use of music. The music was laid on loud and clear over the trailer with only dialog to obstruct it, no sounds effects were added. This allowed for the epic music to really flow and build.

Turns out it is indeed a part of Hans Zimmer's score for the film. He confirms this via a forum post at VI Control Forums. This is a legit post as many people from the industry post there and Hans Zimmer has posted there many times before and it is actually known that the user is him.

Below is the post where he talks about the drums that he has spoken about previously as well as the tune that he wrote for Superman.

The music is actually from the score. A little bit recut - the tune is actually a bit longer in it's development. What you think of as synth sounds are 8 pedal steel guitars. Best organic pad sound yet Smile The perc is the session I did at WB and Fox with 15 drummers:
JR Robinson
Jason Bonham
Josh Freese
Pharrell Williams
Danny Carey
Satnam Ramgotra
Toss Panos
Jim Keltner
Curt Bisquera
Trevor Lawrence Jr
Matt Chamberlain
Ryeland Allison
Sheila E
Bernie Dresel
Vinnie Colaiuta
with the amazing JunkieXL conducting (There is something to be said to get a drummer who is a star of EDM and knows how to get a crowd of twohundred thousand people dancing at his shows to liontame and energise this lot!)
But of course the real plus is the lack of sound effects...which gets us back to that other thread about dubbing music loudly Smile
I'm glad you liked it!

Awesome, as I loved it.

Nothing will beat Williams, but this seemed perfect for this take on Superman. Just enjoy the way it built up over the trailer.

It has kids the same formula as TDK soundtrack
The slow beat at the beginning
Then rising and getting louder
Just this one sounds more "uplifting" which is perfect
Especially the music that can be heard in the background during the interrogation
Sounds really HERIOC

i thought that was the weakest part of the trailer, not as epic as john williams theme.but saying that it may grow on me.

I think it sounds much better than the Batman music. This atleast seems to have a theme or structure. Batman had no theme.

John Williams theme will never be topped. Let's not aim for the stars. :)

John Williams theme what be stopped, but it doesn't have to. WB are trying to seperate themselves as far as possible from the OG Supermans and Superman Returns. This is a true, full reboot, and this theme fits that. WB wants to bring back a different Superman and this fits that.

I think it's as good if not better than his Nolan Batman themes, but we will have to withhold judgment till the movies out.

thats disappointing. the music in the trailer was the only thing i didn't like. doesn't sound memorable, hopefully that isn't his theme.

Impressive list of drummers, recognised quite a few names there. Particularly Jason Bonham, son of Led Zep drummer John Bonham, Sheila E of Prince fame and Vinnie Colaiuta. I'd love to know the story behind how he got them all together rather than just hiring more than competent but 'nameless' session players.

it does feel slightly epic, but very very forgettable. hopefully the movie makes good use of it and my mind changes.

@DarthMauve
In a recent interview, I don't remember which, he said that he was able to get the who's who who of drummers when he'd tell them its for Superman. They would all come quite easily.

Thanks! I was really hoping it was a Superman related 'build it and they will come' scenario. Just shows how deeply seated Supes is in our culture. Good stuff :)

Beautiful BEAUTIFUL soaring score...

The build-up made me feel like that 5-year old boy that I was so long ago - pulling on that t-shirt with the sparkly 'S' logo on it, running around in the backyard and feeling powerful. Magical times.

You can't put a price on feeling a little bit of that again - and thats what the score stirred in me.

Seems like there's a pretty big difference of opinion. Personally I thought the music was by far the best part. It really set the tone and atmosphere, and just sounded great. I was not looking forward to this movie at all. I thought it was gonna be a dud (sorry Nolan fans, but I think anything Nolan touches is crap, with the exception of The Dark Knight). However, the trailer showed a lot more of the movie, gave it a personality, and Hans just blew it out of the water with that track.

I loved John Wiliam's score and all, but much like Elfman's Batman score,... it's dated. It's time for something new, and Zimmer's doing it perfectly

I loved the drum beat to it when it builds up. It was just epic, I loved the drums when Superman was blocking the ray beam, it was just great.

I wasn't feeling the music when I first watched the trailer, but I've had the tune in my head (especially heavy drum parts) since the trailer was released. At this point I actually LOVE the music, after watching the trailer literally dozens of times now.

It really is the perfect example of an acquired taste, but once you really understand it it's incredible. Hans wasn't trying to "beat" John Williams and no one expected him to do that, but the genius of this score is that he wasn't trying to be anything he's not. Hans has ALWAYS been and will continue to be a percussion heavy composer. He stuck to HIS roots and designed a score that so far is better than any comic book movie score of the past decade save for MAYBE Batman Begins itself.
